why did we let anyone try to convince us that Obama wasn’t great

obama

last night the first black president stepped up to the plate
and did what he normally does
he looked around, pointed to deep centerfield
and hit the ball exactly where he pointed
and ran around the bases casually
smiling
as the whole world cheered.

yet for nearly eight years we sat there
and listened to nincompoops and idiots
bitch and whine that
Nobama didn’t do this or did that wrong or foolishly.

people have the shortest memories.

things were so bad in 2007 that when Obama won his first presidential election
some speculated that the Republicans didn’t even really try to win
because they knew that no one could lift us out of the
shitty stinky fucked up hole
that eight years of Bush / Cheney sank us into.

and even though for most of his 8 years he had a do nothing Congress
who said straight up that they were going to do everything they could
to make sure he would only be a one-term president
he ended up being one of the greatest leaders
an America ever had.
twenty million people now have health insurance
millions of gays and lesbians can get married now
and be in the armed forces without having to pretend
our national debt has been reduced
millions of people who were unemployed now have jobs
the stock and real estate markets are booming.

and best of all, the Cubs are on their way to becoming a Dynasty.

if some grumpy old white Republican dude with gray hair and a big belly
had done this
they’d be talking about adding him to Mount Rushmore

never let them convince you
even for a minute
that Obama isn’t spectacular.
they are jealous,
and they should be
on so many levels.

  1. lemme explain something to you about life, tony. you see this blog you just did? (i wouldn’t even have read it if i didn’t think there might have been something buried in it that i casually mentioned in my email last night *smirk*) this blog you just did is a type of segregation. the more people talk about someone’s accomplishments and bring up race, the more he separates the races. it’s like having separate black and latino music awards… why? what are you trying to say with that? the harder blacks fought segregation and the more they fought to be integrated goes to shit when they host their own award ceremonies and leave white people (or asian people, or native american people, or indian people, you get the gist) out. lemme tell you something about the unites states of america and why people REALLY ddn’t like the idea of a black man running it: the president of a country has to RESEMBLE the majority of the people of that nation. i don’t think it’s a written rule; it’s one of those unspoken and understood ones. personally, i would NOT have voted for obama NOT because the man isn’t a fucking genius with words (let’s face it, not one stinkin’ president ever accomplished what he initially set out to do; that would be impossible when you have scillions of people and other nations against you); not because he’s not smart and dedicated and loyal and caring and brave and all that good stuff; but because and ONLY because when you look at obama, sadly, you see the color black and maybe you don’t already know this but, america is CONSIDERED to be a white protestant nation (not by the nicest people on the planet; but that’s just how it’s been ingrained in us); so when outsiders look at our president (quite possibly the best we’ve had in a very long time, i agree), they can’t make the connection, supposing someone from mars looked at obama–what would he think america is mostly made up of? black men. is that necessarily a bad thing? fuck no! but is it an accurate description of this country? kind of like you expect children to look like their parents, you expect the people of a nation to look somewhat like their leader: the FACE of a nation. on the flip side: i think it’s a fucking shame when people see black and automatically think: great on a basketball court, great on a baseball field, super fucking awesome in BED, but… that’s about it. SAD! perhaps one day it’ll change but in my humble non-educated opinion (i failed poli sci), i think the stigma that goes along with being black can never fully leave us until we STOP teaching about slavery in school and wipe that horrible horrible time from the slate and people’s memories because instead of reminding us how bad we were, it keeps driving that stake deeper between us. it was wrong. but until we put it behind us, there will never be TRUE equality. again, my humble opinion. so, don’t feel too bad obama won’t get his face carved into mount rushmore–as long as he carved out a niche in our hearts.

  2. and another thing! it’s pure vanity; plain and simple. i wanna be represented by someone who looks like me. despite my looking more like hillary clinton the donald frump (err, trump!), i’m scared to death to vote for a woman president because, again, nothing personal. not because she’s incompetent; she’s fucking competent! but… you get to thinking how the terrorists hate women (even their own) and you wonder whether we’d be under MORE attack and be threatened THAT much more if a woman were to take office. if muslims hate women, there’s more chance they’d attack a nation run by a woman. just like if the french president weren’t so fucking gay (no offense!), isis wouldn’t keep hitting france. i hope you see where i’m coming from.

  3. You know what, I voted for Bush back in the day but it never dawned on me what an idiot he was until I heard Obama speak. We had a long series of idiots for president and Obama has set the bar pretty high. Hillary isn’t gonna reach it and it would be a gawwwdamn shame to backslide all the way to the other option.

    • @5chw4r7z <- you DO realize your moniker = Schwartz = black, right? LOL I'm assuming you're a Jew or just a sneaky asshole (aka, a Jew)! And if you got your feelers hurt, then I'm sorry! :-X (I can say shit like that 'cause I'm Jewish too — although, not practicing.) Other odd Ger-'manic' *ahem* last names include Schwarzkopf (blackhead) and Schwarzenegger (black negro). What is this with Jews and their fascination with blackness? Did you know that before their were black boxers, Jews were know for their big penises and prowess? Now they just wear beanies and glasses *sigh*

      • It takes me longer than others to learn lessons. But I have learned over the last year that caring about other human beings makes you someone to be feared and ridiculed.
        Sad.

    • and damn it, quit trying to apologize to tony for voting for a white man! it’s like THAT’S gonna make up for eons of shit. and i think anyone who chooses democracy over republicanism or vice versa is a damn fool. both sides will fight for what’s good and right; all YOU have to do is pick the candidate that makes the best impression and has ‘presence’ (as opposed to presents). do you seriously think ANY of them actually thinks for him (or her) self? as if! geez, i wish people would grow the fuck up already!
