i was in hog heaven yesterday

had mike singletary firing up his defense on fox, had the skins giants on some other channel. decided to have ice cream for lunch. prefect breeze is coming in thru the french doors. and after football i went to a coworkers house whose bf is a writer on True Blood and we went over to their house to watch the finale and the creepy evangelist’s hot wife was there. twas fun!

on wednesday i start a week long working summer vacation. meanwhile im uploading photos from yesterdays first sunset strip music festival on the streets.

got there yesterday in time to see the donnas, who for some reason havent been playing with their hot blonde drummer torey, but they were good. ive seen the donnas at the roxy a few times and once at the viper. theyre the perfect band to be playing this fest. actually it was a perfect selection of bands when you think about it.

the headliner was ozzy. opening for him was korn, who was surprisingly good.

on the more poppy dance stage was LMFAO, Shwazye, and the ever delightful kottonmouth kings of whom i will have a large photo essay of tomorrow. just too many funny tales.

karisa and i went into a couple of clubs since all of them were open as part of the festie. the photo is from going into the hustler store as it was only one of the few places with an atm. (keep this myth going.)

so the rock was tremendous, the lighter, happier dance stage was fun. we had some shrimp tacos that were pretty good. was anything bad?

yes, of course but not super bad. parking of course wasnt the easiest but pretty much none of these street festivals in LA can easily afford 5,000 extra cars in the neighborhoods. so i just parked over by Ketchup and walked the 5-6 blocks and considered it excersize.

another irritant was the no beer in the street / no water in the clubs. lets deal with the latter first. if you charge me $3 for water, why treat that bottle of water as the enemy when i want to take it into the whisky?

secondly, we’re in a closed in fenced in place. why cant i drink my beer and watch the bands outside? they can do it at sunset junction, and the people hosting the event are some of the most responsible club owners in town, why not be able to bring your drinks with you where you go?

i know there’s probably some safety theory, being as this is their first outdoor street fest. but the truth is, if you’re in one of the beer gardens, or in one of the clubs, and you decide to motivate elsewhere – when you arent allowed to take your drink with you, you chug it. therefore the rules are actually inspiring binge drinking. if you let a man nurse his beer, he probably will.

best part? getting doused by ozzy’s crazy firehose of foam.

the pictures of people covered in that crap are pretty hilarious.

after the show karisa wanted to get sushi so as she and her pal dave went to his house to drop off his bike, i sped back to my crib to shower and change out of my crappy clothes.

it made everyone late, and the geisha house gave away our table, but man did i feel better. whoops.

my full review of the rock here in a photo essay like no other, on the Pop n Hiss blog

tony, how do you feel about how kanye acted at vmas tonight on the mtv

?

i have always loved rock stars who are crazy. i want all my rock stars to be crazy.

i want them to write amazing things, i want them to scream them at me. i want them to light their equipment on fire and i want them to act a fool on national tv.

when they die i want it to be spectacular.

and if theyre going to steal the spotlight from someone, i want it to be from the sweetest most innocent person in the whole room. so that we can see the difference between legendary lunacy and everyman.

even if everyman is a smokin hot blonde chick “who sings country”.

now kanye is one step closer to marrying taylor, which is something we all want.

that, and for beyonce to be our first female president.

a long time ago my truest and i lived on the wesssside

occassionally wed have breakfast at the end of our block at the 24 hour diner Dolores.

afterwards id say why did we just spend $20 on eggs and bacon?

and in a perfect example of time heals all wounds (or distorts the truth), last night we were planning on having dinner and seeing a movie.

unfortunately there was a bloggy emergency at the lat and we werent able to leave the house until 9:30pm. and as much as i love LA, i gotta give it up to NYC for being able to have a nice meal at pretty much any hour. same cant be said for the 323.

so as we drove down sunset i said, how about Dolores – you could get breakfast… who doesnt like breakfast for dinner?

as we made it to the 405 i was thinking about liver and bacon. when we got to dolores in west la, we immedately noticed how they had redecorated the place. still looked like a 60s denny’s-esque diner, but they had painted the walls yellow-orange and put up all these framed posters and shelve-filler that it looked like a furniture store, except with tables.

the food appeared to have gone through an anti-flavor machine. my salmon ($16.75) looked like fish vampire had sunk its fangs into the small portions and sucked all the life out of it.

even the mashed potatoes felt like they had just suffered a heart attack.

and somehow the well-done hash browns became extra greasy.

our waitress was great and she told us that the new owners had done the redecorating about a year ago and there was still a little left to do. we were happy that they hadnt messed with the extra large muffins.

but we hope the next renovation will be with the menu.

eight years ago there was a small subset of bloggers

who utilized web cams

it wasnt a live streaming cam show like it eventually became,

most of these people would just snap a still image from their web cam and have that update on the blog.

usually it was a little box, like the picture above.

i had done photo essays using some of their cam stills in the past when talking about halloween or when one of the cam girls was signing off forever, so i knew to just go on the web and let the pictures tell the story.

one of the little stories that this photo essay captures was that sometime on the day of 9/11 there became this buzz that everyone needs to donate blood. why that? weren’t all the people dead? i dont remember what the hoopla was about, but it was there.

the busblog started a month before 9/11. its fascinating and unbelievable to think about what has happened in my life since that day – all the joy and pain and huge successes.

which is why its equally mindblowing that a city like new york hasn’t totally rebuilt ground zero by now, and its totally disappointing that a country like the usa hasnt been able to get osama by now.

the reward for getting osama is $27 million. but maybe it should be something else. somethng like how the Make a Wish foundation works. clearly $27 million isnt enough, so maybe offer something priceless: like a weekend as a guest at the playboy mansion, followed by a trip into space on the space shuttle.

if valentines day is about thinking about love all day, and if Christmas is about thinking about holy stuff all day, maybe 9/11 should be about figuring out ways to catch osama bin laden.

theres nothing worse than unfinished business.
