we’ve popped champagne a few times at work

and its always a great sound

but yesterday when the bubbly was rolled out, for some reason the good stuff tasted even better than before because this redesign was a full court press effort by sooooo many people.

and not only did it involve so many elements, but most of it was technical (which is always the hardest for me, a poetry major), and some of it was super new, and some of it involved what can only be described as magic.

we still have a few more kinks to work out on the redesigned site and the redesigned blogs, but the heaviest lifting is now done.

when i was a youngster everyone wanted to learn french so they could run to canada if there was ever another war. then everyone wanted to learn japanese when it looked like they were gonna take over all of business.

when i moved to LA i wanted to learn spanish so i could be a great baseball manager (and so i could better hit on the chicas).

but now i recommend that people learn programming languages because since everything is so tech-based, they are the ones who can make the future a reality today.

i taught a class at Cal State Long Beach

today. it was fun

maybe taught is an improper word. i talked a lot. mostly about my amazing career.

the kids were quiet. something i need to work on. saw a few who were asleep. so i increased the volume and cussed a little to wake them up.

didnt work.

but man, look at that classroom. iMacs on every desk! what a way to goof off.

questions i got: WITH MY ANSWERS IN ALL SHOUTS

Are bloggers still getting sued? YES!

Is it dangerous to be a blogger? ONLY IF YOU CALL A MEMBER OF THE BLACK EYED PEAS A BAD NAME.

Is there Job security in being a blogger? IF THERE ISNT JOB SECURITY IN BANKING, THERE PROBABLY ISNT MUCH IN BLOGGING EITHER.

super fun.

control is an illusion

cubs fans are so frustrated that how can you blame a bleacher bum for throwing a beer at one of the enemy’s many all stars, all of whom have rings. the hope of which cub fans see slipping away from them for the 101st year in a row.

almost as many years as pedro martinez has been playing baseball. yes, that pedro, the game winning pitcher.

if only all our problems could be solved as easy as a ten dollar beer on a multi million dollar switch hitter from maui.

but it’s wrong.

throwing beer.

and what’s wronger still is letting someone else take the wrap for you.

an innocent man.

a fellow cub fan.

and all of it encompasses just a a few shades of what its like to be a cub fan.

youre basically screwed forever.

which is why you should drink the nice beer, and not throw it.

this brendan. he was my summer intern. friday his internship was over

brendan did a really great job. he even cracked some really good jokes at the perfect time.

we had him do a lot of things, and i had him come to a few interesting meetings. i wanted him to get a taste of a whole bunch of different aspects of online journalism in a very short period of time and i think he got that.

but now he’s missed. especially on days like today where we’re going to turn the site inside out as we launch the new redesign.

this is angela. friday was her last day too.

angela and i started on the very same day.

for some reason i always thought of her as a usc trojan, but it turned out she had taken a break from harvard to join the times’ online sales dept.

now shes going back to finish up her mba(!)

angela was actually in the meeting where brendan told his best joke.

ah i miss them both.

glenda is having a going away party in frisco this weekend

an excerpt:

Now, before you say “another one bites the dust” because YET ANOTHER PERSON IS MOVING TO NEW YORK CITY, let me remind you that I’m actually from there and not simply moving to New York because I’m some sort of traitor. I’m moving to the Bronx (yeah yeah yeah, not Williamsburg; man, that’s soooooo 2003) and going to grad school!

SF = O RLY?
NYC = O WORD?

What to say, huh? I’m leaving the Bay Area for the East Coast, and I would really love for you, the All-Star Traveling Team, to join me for a night of truly epic, face-melting karaoke battles (like back in the Bay Area Nerd Core days when the scene kids weren’t all doing it).

So, let’s meet up at one of my favorite local SF haunts – {redacted}. (Which, by the way, is remodelling the space! How appropriate… since I’m working on Glenda-B Version 3.0. 😉 )

I’m going to get to knock off something on my lifetime “All-Time To-Do” list, and that is to drive from coast-to-coast, relying on almost nothing next to my own wits and fists. While I do that, I get to hit the two ballparks in Missouri that I’ve never been to (which would bring my total count up to 25 of 30 ballparks), and as you know, what is summer without baseball and crazy road trips, anyway? Not much of a summer, I’ll tell you that much. =P

The catch is this: As part of the All-Star Travelling Team, you will have to autograph a baseball (which I will provide), to commemorate any instance in the last 6 years of you guys pulling me out of fights, texting random gibberish, doing insanely retarded roadtrips, breaking my toe, and all the other fun/awkward/hilarious “Wonder Years” stuff that we share. I will not forget them, and I most certainly will not forget you.

I will take the baseball home with me to New York, where I will someday come up with a case for it, in addition to some sort of baseball metaphor that will cause me to look back on my time in the Bay Area fondly. (Hell, it lasts longer than signing a card, right?) If your name is on the ball, rest assured you will always have a place to stay in NYC that will not cost you $350 a night, but NADA! (I’m going to be living in a palacial 3-bedroom crib that has more than enough room for everyone!)

SO!!! AT LEAST SHOW UP TO SIGN THE BASEBALL. 😉

she and artie lange are the only people id ever go to a yankee game with.

these dogs bark and i get all pissed

and think why do these dogs have to bark

why cant they just chill out and be mellow the way the rest of us are being.

civilized.

but then i remember, oh yeah not all dogs realize that theyve been brought to this city not to be dogs aka animals who love to run around in the great outdoors and be free

but eating pissing and pooping machines who’ll get a pet every now and then but

and she wouldnt stop.

i thought what sorta date is this? am i on tv

am i her shrink? does she have no friends?

and for some reason i always think costumes can fix anything.

i thought maybe if she had a super tall pink hairdo

or a tuxedo dress

or a dress that looked like a swan,

everything would be all better.

and sometimes it sucks to be right.
