“isaac” with no blog writes in to whine again:

jesus my man has someone’s job taken over their bloglife? no perspective

tony pierce dot com provides latimes blog news 24/7,

save it for the office honeys tony i’m bored as shit with all this…., stop flogging for zell, go back to blogging at least it was half interesting – Isaac

dear isaac with no blog, thus truly no perspective,

you are on the world famous busblog. written by a man who has the dream job of his life.

clearly you must see the irony of you, a man without a blog, coming to the blog of the blog editor of a major newspaper, to bitch that this personal blog is sometimes omg about the exciting changes of said newspaper which is rapidly changing and growing to improve existing blogs and incorporate new blogs into their collection, many of whom might not be there if it wasnt for the man who has the dream job of his life.

on my blog, this blog, i get to write about my life. a blog ive been writing since 8/01. amazingly. beautifully. magically. im sorry that my life and my job are more interesting than yours. my advice to you is stop whining on peoples personal sites, and go out and follow your dreams. my advice is to get a blog and show me how its done, if you know so much. my advice is to comment on blog posts of mine that you approve of instead of bitching about blog posts that allegedly bore you, because frankly i couldnt give a rats ass what you think. because youre not thinking.

every post in the busblog has always been about me, my love life, my fans (pictured, right) my amazing friends, but most of them have been about my jobs. be it when i worked in the bowels of E!, to when i flew in a black helicopter above the skies of LA for the xbi, to when i helped buzznet rise from the ashes of nothingness to somewhatbetter than nothingness, to when i helped bring the blog of LA from not-bad to whoa, and now to when i get to work with the fine journalists of the LA Times as they begin to rule all over the blogosphere.

its not my fault that writing about success doesnt interest you. im sorry that blogging about the inside world of blogging isnt yr cup of tea. im sorry that you thought that this blog was about anything other than exactly what i want.

im sorry that when i went to the nba finals and gave the world a photo essay it didnt inspire you to comment. im sorry that when i went to hermosa beach on the first day of summer and busted with a photo essay it didnt inspire you to say right on. im sorry that when i went to see the next big things the ting tings at the sold out troubadour busted with a photo essay as i answered questions from the hottest blogger in orlando and it didnt inspire you to say thank you tony for doing the thing that reporters are supposed to do which is go places that others cant go to and tell their brothers and sisters what they saw while doing the one thing that bloggers do beautifully which is keeping it real and revealing.

im sorry if you dont see the beauty of the work that we’re doing at the times and how it might relate to your socalledlife or to the new renaissance of online digital journalism. but mostly im sorry that yr so sorry that you really thought that tony pierce of all people gave a crap about the thoughts of a non bloggers critique of a personal blog written by the author of how to blog.

if you can do it better, fire one up, and lay it down. otherwise save your kvetching and comment on the posts that interest you. the busblog has always had a wide variety of subject matters revolving around my life. and if none of them interest you, there are 125 million other urls whose comments you can project onto.

but theres a reason you keep coming back here. my guess is because you love it here.

so thank you for your patronage.

– Stone Temple Pilots singer gets spitting mad when our writer/blogger dares ask the question “How disruptive has it been on band unity to have you going to serve jail time just before reuniting onstage for the first time in five years?” Full give and take in Soundboard

– Forget Shaq vs Kobe: Scott McClellan has two possible book titles for the Vice President that you can read in our Bush blog, Countdown to Crawford. Those titles are “The Lies I Told” or “I Upped Halliburton’s Income — So Up Yours”

why change not only matters, but it’s vital

cougar took me to this little bar by her condo last night. she got drunk, ran into some of her friends, and when she introduced me to them told them where i worked. fortunately for everyone involved they were drunk and stupid and loud. oh and like her, they were lawyers, and thought they knew it all.

as they blathered on they tried to grill me on the decline of newspaper circulations nationwide, and the fact that my very own paper might go through some pretty noticeable changes. they asked if i was nervous.

i told them id be nervous if we werent going through changes.

i told them about the hallway on the first floor of the Times and the walls where we have framed some of our most dramatic front pages. if you look at those pages you’ll see that almost every front page looks very different from the next. not just the style of the headlines but the way we laid it out, the way we covered things, and the way we used to have ads on the front page.

ten years ago no one had ever heard of Google, but now they are the most dominate company in the most dominant industry in the world. Google changes their search algorithm reportedly 200 times a year. if that number is true it means that one of the most powerful and trusted companies, one whose stock is beyond $500 a share, fiddles with its bread-n-butter product almost every working day.

meanwhile it has expanded what it does in almost every direction. how many times do you see tv news stations utilize google earth, or friends of yours use gmail, or websites use google maps? google hit the ground running and changed who they were almost every day. this blog is powered by blogger which is owned by google.

if newspapers dont learn from what is working today and what has always worked, then they will fall into the margins and deserve the same fate that ibm, xerox, and gm are now experiencing. all once mighty giants who no one thought would ever be an also-ran.

business and life are won by the nimble, the fearless, and the aggressive who look back in the past for clues both in how they should change and as to how far theyve progressed. although i go through different towns and cringe that my favorite sandwich shop has turned into a starbucks, or frown at how my fro has utterly disappeared, it would be absolutely foolish of me to blame competition or nature for the inevitable. which is everything worthwhile grows, and sometimes to grow youve gotta eat everything around you.

so the question is, are you going to grow or be someones lunch today?

my favorite parts of the latest kanye west blog post

and sorta cuz it reminds me of raymi

basically kanye was/is pissed because people talked shhhh about him for being late for his performance at Bonnaroo which was supposed to start at Late o’clock but went down at Reeeeeeally Late O’Clock (they shoulda been honored by his lateness?). anyways heres my favorite parts

– I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall…

– I understand if people don’t like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life.

– This is the most offended I’ve ever been…

– this is the maddest I ever will be.

– I’m typing so f’ing hard I might break my f’ing Mac book Air!!!!!!!!

– FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL.

– WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH F’ING IDIOTS WHO DIDN’T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY.

– THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE … I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS, IT’S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS!

– MY PEOPLE WORKED OUT A COMPROMISED STAGE PLOT AND A 3AM TIME SLOT AND I AGREED.

– MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN’T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE.

– PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

– AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, ” IT WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!”

– I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY F’ING SCREEN. REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A SHORTY AND WATER WOULD HIT THE TV??????

– I’VE STRUGGLED WITH STRONGER FROM IT’S CONCEPTION. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER WHEN I CANCELED SOME TV APPEARANCES. IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN’T WANT TO PERFORM STRONGER IN THE DAYTIME.

– IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN’T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT’S GREATEST FORM…

– SOMETIMES I GO 2, 3 DAYS W/O SLEEP WORKING ON MY PERFORMANCE…

– I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT

memories

..

many moons ago i used to pump gas at an all full-serve gas station in beverly hills.

you can still see it if you drive down Beverly Glen or Santa Monica Blvd.

some say the area is Century City.

there used to be a great little grocery store and deli across the street from it. now its a walgreens.

life has a funny way of turning good things into shit right before your eyes.

for example, look at those gas prices.

the la times’ latest blog is gonna get a lot of hype

and justly

patrick goldstein is one of our best writers. now hes about to blog every day.

i used to read him way back in the day when he wrote a column called Pop Eye.

its been a super thrill to work with him as he has been writing behind the scenes to get his new blog The Big Picture launched, which we did a few hours ago.

man knows pretty much everyone in hollywood. pretty hard to beat. gonna be a pretty amazing blog. one that you cant get just any old where.

very excited. worth staying at work late for.

worth bookmarking or subscribing to, if you like film and hollywood and good insightful writing.

sadly i work for the local paper and we are launching a big new blog tomorrow so not only do i have to be here but i probably hafta be here late.

arrrrrgh.

i just wanted to see the weeze.

and yeah it wouldnta sucked to have seen em with karisa and then ate steaks or shrimp

or surf n turf.

my life blows. i hate it. i wanna move back to afghanistan.

i wanna fly back to planet zip.

hope of the zippos

which inspired the lighters of the same name.

because they were like hippos but lighter.

so light they could float in space.

and dunk when they played znba hoops.

now i hafta train people how to blaawwwwwwg.

whaaaa.

i also hate that not too many people commented on my first day of summer photo essay below.

whaaaaa.

ok im done now.

also the cubs swept the stinky sox all over the place so im feeling good about that.

and its nice and cool in my office and the ac blowing on my bald head is comforting.

and i have you and the world famous busblog.

so who needs rivers.

I DO!

george carlin

r.i.p.

im very sad right now.

george carlin was amazing in so many ways on so many levels.

i disagreed with his jokes about religion (theyre too easy) but i loved

LOVED

everything else.

above is bro handling a heckler. the way he just reels off the attack is a thing of beauty and so damn funny and effective. a real pro.

souljaboy vs ice-t

ice-t claims that souljaboy singlehandedly killed hip hop

soulja boy responds (fun game: drink every time you hear the n-word)

special guest kanye west chimes in:

Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be. He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song. He had all of America rapping this summer. If that ain’t Hip Hop then what is? A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain’t even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it’s 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit? Niggas always talk about the golden age but for a 13 year old kid, this is the golden age!!! That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning… that’s Nas level shit… he just put it over some steel drums which is also some Nas shit if you had the 2nd album cassette with the bonus track “Silent Murder” on it.

what do i think? glad you asked. i think ice-t is full of shit. i think hes trying to sell some records and got dissed royally by soulja who has never sounded more gangsta than in this retort.

a year ago i was on the mtv video awards red carpet representing LAist. big stars zoomed right past me. i got to talk to a few stars, but most of the big ones blew me off big time. souljaboy just happened to have the #1 record and the #1 dance at the time and he spent as much time with me as i wanted. he was hustlin, he was workin it. and when you might wince when he says “im 17, i worked hard for this” you might not understand how a teen can work hard for something that seems like an overnight sensation, but he worked that entire red carpet, dancing, joking, flashing, stylin, hustlin. and here he is making videos and putting them on youtube.

ice t picked the wrong brotha to call out.
