she said, wanna go to the club?

i said of course i want to go to the club

where else would i want to be than a place that plays

terrible music

super loudly

and charges me soooo much money to get drunk

she asked are you being sarcastic?

i said with you baby id go anywhere

i have the perfect outfit

a polo shirt, jeans

and a half gallon of drakkar noir

she said, because it sounds like yr being sarcastic

and i really wanna dance

i love to dance

i said i love to dance too

but i like to spontaneously dance

i once dated a girl who said she didnt like sex on a bed

she liked it to be spontaneous and unusual

i feel the same way about dancing

she said i dont wanna hear about your old girlfriends.

i said, whoops sorry.

im just old.

ive got stories

she said well i want to dance

and you want to dance

but you want to do it spontaneously, how do we make that work?

i said fine lets go to a club

she was all, really?

i was like sure, whats the worst that could happen?

i wish i could tell you how happy i am

we are so ahead of schedule on hear in LA

it is the perfect time to update the website.

and

the interviews ive done that are in the can

the ones ive done that havent been edited yet

and the ones ive got lined up

are sooooooooo goooooooood

today and yesterday i did two hour interviews

i told jordan, just turn them into MP3s and i’ll time code the easy cuts out of there

but theres 90 minutes each of quality content so the rest will be hard

solid people. all of them. LA is the best.

which is to say, it’s as good as your favorite place.

i like social media experiments

my Hear in LA youtube page only has 15 subscribers

who knows when i will really do hear in LA videos, but i wanted a place to store things unique to the podcast.

i also am a fan of public domain things.

for example this little interstitial for concessions is something they play before every screening of a film at the Vista, my local cinema

so i put it on the Hear in LA page, tagged it properly, described it using the correct SEO terms

and son of a biscuit, it’s got over 5,000 views.

which is more than how many people listened to the podcast about the Vista manager, sadly, even though it was incredible and he’s such a beloved man.

which makes me think i need to shoot little videos of these people

put those bad boys on the YouTube channel and see what happens

because im sorry, Victor’s origin story is way more interesting than this little song.

such a good day

even though the hear in LA interviews are only scheduled for an hour

they can end up 2-3 hours, easy.

these people are great, first of all,

and who doesn’t like talking about themselves?

today i got to talk to someone who worked at Bad Robot, the company that made Lost

and the newer Star Trek and Mission Impossible movies.

he was also very knowledgeable about sports and music so it was hard to keep it under an hour and a half.

got home and had a great convo with my neighbor and his girlfriend

im trying to help them save their rock club

which seems like a long shot.

but you know what?

i fucking love long shots.

did some beekeeping

didnt expect it, but i was interviewing a great guy who told me about the 100k bees in his backyard

then he said, ive got a suit, lets go

i was all no no, thats perfectly ok.

but he insisted and im glad he did because

everyone should experience it.

they buzz around you and call you the n word

but if you just chill out they will realize its useless

afterwards i got kfc and couldnt believe how cool that was.

yesterday i did some things im not proud of

at the top of the list is i didnt drink enough water

and my gout returned and i hobbled around and felt very old

i wonder how this might affect my body and my feet, long term

i also wonder what i am eating that is causing this.

is it just not drinking a lot of water?

rarely do i accept water from people who offer it to me

but when I was interviewing Sass i accepted and drank. and in my car i went through two small bottles.

and at home i drank and drank and peed and peed and now i feel a little better

but mama mia if i have to drink a half gallon a day this is going to be an interesting next 50 years

because i could go a whole day without drinking 12 ounces

which is maybe why we are where we are.

have i been busy?

sheeeeeeeet

today i was interviewing one dude and when it was over i asked

do you have any neighbors i should interview?

he said, i have a neighbor who played bass with bob dylan

during the infidels tour

and also grew up with Andy Kaufman

i am busy and lucky and i love you and i hope you love whats coming up next

On this day in 1980 some kid brought this to school

An album.

Who brings an album to school?

Somehow a record player got rolled in on a stand with wheels usually used for a little movie projector. The kid opened the album and put it on the turntable

I was in 8th grade.

“The Cradle Will Rock” blasted out. Was that a 747?

Eddie Van Halen.

I had heard Van Halen before but it never really cut through me like it was doing. My heart was beating. Pounding.

Before I knew it “Everybody Wants Some” saw our backs were against the ropes and came in for the knockout.

Was this band playing in the jungle?

How was this fair? Where were the teachers?

Just two years previous I had kissed a girl for the first time and couldn’t believe it. Two songs in and I felt the same way about whatever brand of rock this was.

You can talk in the middle of the drum beat break down?

‘i always liked those kind of high heels, too.’

Previously kids had brought a few things into school over time that were cool.

One kid brought his damn horse, Chief.

But this was better. And I understood why he brought it in.

‘look, i’ll pay ya for it.’
