today confused me.

and uplifted me. and depressed me. and inspired me.

i wanna be able to write the way birds fly, and how babies put one of their feet in their mouth

and gnaw on it for a while. all dirty from the subway floor they just crawled on.

when i kiss a girl i want there to be a spark, some magic, electricity. its weird how thats not always the case.

when i drive i want the car to be an extension of my heart. i want the machine to lurch when im entering the freeway, i want it to coast when im texting a friend, and i want it to destroy shady drivers who dont use their blinkers but obviously want nothing more than to drift over to my lane and loiter at inappropriately tedious “speeds”.

my television is perfect. its the only reason i want renters insurance. not because its expensive, but because i love it so and rarely can you get insurance for a broken heart.

it has seven inputs. and the picture on every one of them is crystal clear. the speakers are better than any cheapass surround system, but whats best is the Sleep button works allowing me to drift off into slumber as it illuminates my boudoir with background noise so i can distract my mind long enough to pass out.

and still im confused.

youd think after all this time certain truths would be evident, signs would appear, warnings would blare, or patterns would develop that would help one understand the present enough so as to accurately predict the future.

im so confused right now i barely know what day it is. my doctor left a message for me reminding me of my annual physical, yet when i crosschecked my iphone it wasnt in the calendar, and lets not even begin with the xbi.

if you watch football closely you’ll know that the reason successful quarterbacks like brett favre win is because not only do they know the routes that all the receivers are running, but the receivers actually run those routes. why? because if they dont, brett favre will personally kick their ass.

i want to be that person.

because when the receivers run those routes, even if its a full on blitz with mere seconds on the clock, brett favre will ship that package with no excuses. for there are no excuses.

there are those who are committed, and those who got dressed up for nothing.

as a cub fan, my quota of losses has been exceeded. there is no room for any more in any aspect of my life.

on many levels this is not what i expected or wanted at this stage in my life. however on other levels i cannot even begin to thank the man upstairs for all that i have and all that i get to do. thus the confusion.

going bald was no big thing, and yet having a spare tire – mortifying. but not enough to actually join a gym, or use the free equipment at work. am i insane?

ive seen people on hallucinogens repeatedly ask those of us who were sober “im going crazy, right?” and finally we had to say if you keep saying that then you will go crazy.

to which they only reply with, “oh so i AM on the path to insanity?”

i dont like people who dont provide a link in their Tweets when theyre describing good journalism.

i dont like when restaurants or customer service reps or traffic patterns act as if this is the first time that this has ever happened. shouldnt we know how to remove a fender bender from the freeway in minutes by now? shouldnt customer service people pretty much know how to identify and solve the Problem of the Day by the second hour of their shift? and by 1pm shouldnt you know what the soup of the day is?

i know this is the busblog, but ive bought a few new cars in my day. but never from a salesman who utters the hackneyed phrase of “lets go in my office and let me crunch the numbers”.

no. you sell about 10 different types of vehicles. you know how much they cost. you know how much the monthly payment will be. you even know how much commission you will be making on it. the numbers have been crunched weeks ago, and if they are a surprise to you then youre too inexperienced to take my tens of thousands of dollars.

im going to point at a car, you tell me what im going to have to pay each month or this motivated customer will peace out.

all i wanna do is write. all i wanna do is help people write. and for some reason i think i have to lead by example, because my hero pete rose did.

he was my hero even before he got confused.

i first knew i wanted to be around news when i was interviewing the chancellor of my college. the nexus, our paper, had been highly critical of her, and, in my opinion, borderline unfair. likewise, the mostly ignored alterna-student paper (our so-called competition) had been completely unfair and borderline juvenile with her. and once i had been fired, and yes, banned from the school paper 🙂 i said to the chancellor “just like you, i too have been shunned by the nexus. let me interview you for that ridiculous throwaway and reveal things that no one would bother to ask because theyre so obsessed with the imagined and salacious.”

because the best part of that interview was when she confessed that she always thought that if she did a good enough job, that petty politics between she and the staff and she and the paper and she and the world would disappear. that success erases all the tedium while it stymies the minutia. but she realized she was wrong. that you had to address and appease all warring fronts else they will overtake even your best laid plans.

likewise pete rose figured he could be as ignorant and cocky and wild as he pleased, how could they stop the man with the most hits in baseball from entering the hall of fame, since the mere act of striking a professionally hurled round ball with a round batting surface is the most difficult task in all of sport. let alone hitting them where they aint.

pete, babs, ftc, sonny… life aint fair.

so then how do you hit a moving target?

you adjust.

and the minute you think youve got it figured out,

expect a flood of confusion.

its what you were asking for.

my truest asked if i ever get depressed

youd think a girl whos known me longer than almost everyone would know the answer to that.

hell to the yes.

in fact this blog was created because of the overwhelming gloom of working for a company that didnt appreciate me, after working for one that did. strangely the one that did fired me twice, whereas the one that didnt only canned me once.

im a little depressed today which is why im eating pudding swirled with tapioca. i guess if i was entirely depressed id have put whipped cream on top of it.

i think its good to write when youre low. i think its a lot like turning cow poop into methane energy to fuel a farm: you should create something with the negative energy.

so heres what i will create today, my first admission to being depressed in a very long time.

some ridiculous and hilarious youtube vids to follow…

jon and kate plus eight

is my favorite show right now

one reason is because jon is always finding himself in the weirdest situations.

last night he found himself on tv sitting across from nancy grace

of all people.

why would he put up with her? why not just talk to barbara walters?

why not get interviewed by the octomom?

what does he have to prove out there anyways? that he doesnt want to be on tv any more? then stop being on tv!

nancy grace needs a hug.

ps if you ever see me in a blazer, assume the worst

story of the day comes from Alabama

where a lady got caught driving with her child on the roof – IN A BOX

An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.

Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.

Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.

those of us without the sin of putting our teen in a box on the top of our car secured with clothes hangers may toss the first stones.

matt good’s “vancouver” comes out today

if you live in the USA go to itunes and right there on the main page you’ll see canadas favorite son

then you will see the cd to the right of the backstreet boys and to the left of tokio hotel

its only $9.99 and for those of us, like me, who have been listening to it streaming for free on matt’s blog, it will be nice to finally hear these great new tunes on our iphones.

happy matt good day!

mark milian interviews hef and his new girlfriends

longtime readers of the busblog might recall the fact that two summers ago i was given an intern who ended up being so great that we hired him. only problem was he was still enrolled in college.

so for a year we sent him story assignments which he did from his college apartment (i would always imagine it was a dorm, but how many Seniors do you know who were still in the dorms).

a few months ago he finally got his diploma and now he is here in LA where he belongs. in between sending him to Nine Inch Nails concerts, conventions, and the like, i was given the chance to go back to the Playboy mansion. because ive been there several times, i figured id give the interview to the kid. who did a great job asking some tough questions.

this interview made its way onto the Show Tracker blog today because the reason for the interview was to get some insight into the unique relationship as it appears in the latest season of The Girls Next Door. but stay tuned as others from this interview will surface on other LAT blogs throughout the week depending on the subject matter.

cover me Matt Welch: Playoff picks? Word about the Angels?

i predict no one will watch the playoffs out of universal sadness over the collapse of the only team in baseball that people really care about. with that said, the dodgers dont even want to be in the playoffs, the cards are from st louis where even Nelly has jumped the shark, the phils are fat, which leaves the rocks.

if the angels can get past the red sox then it will be a rockies / angels yawnfest until the rallymonkey gets loose and starts stealing peoples beers.

angels will win it all in a sweep capped by an inside the parker by your boy Chone.

alecia: what do you think the future of social networking sites is going to be? i often think about this concerning facebook. am i going to have my facebook account for the rest of my life? will they have to start charging considering people are going to have thousands and thousands of pictures on there? (i already have 81 photo albums…) what happens when someone dies are they going to have shit tons of dead people on there eventually? how many friends am i going to have when i’m 50, like 3,000? many questions.

i forsee the future of social media reversing. people who are so fed up with always being accessible go back to the one land line phone, and snail mail mailing address.

its nice to hear every last sigh from every last person, but in the future people will go back to not giving flying f and doing their best to hide out.

hopefully by the time youre 50 you will only have the friends who youd actually wanna party with. to me, that would be progress.

Cindy: What are you going to be for Halloween?

i hate dressing up for halloween, but danielle has gotten a group of good people together to go to a masquerade party. i plan on going as oderus urungus from gwar (and fox news)

g/d: by not seizing one opportunity, will a another opportunity present itself? where can get some chocolate filled karma?

even though it will sound like some tired metaphysical pablum, the truth of the matter is every moment presents new opportunities just waiting to be exploited. case in point: ever notice that in close football games, the last few minutes one team suddenly can march down the field with precision and style; conserving time like a master, despite the fact that for the first three quarters they could barely get into field goal range if it werent for some lucky turnover?

thats because most of our lives we’re just treading water waiting for that Two Minute Drill of Life to put us into panic mode which will give us permission to actually Live a little.

we’re boring people doing boring things for most of our days. we’re capable of so much more, including creating opportunities when there appear to be none. so sure, pass up this opportunity or that one, but dont do it because youre afraid more might not come, {they’ll come} pass up opportunities because theyre lame. but make sure to pounce on the good uns.

the best chocolate filled treats can be found at Michelle’s.

Sarah: When should dudes stop playing video games?

a dude knows that he has given up on an important part of his past when he has stopped playing video games. there was a time when video games, like heavy metal, ruled the world. there used to be a time when time was measured with quarter dollars. there was an era when the video game determined what youd be doing all weekend. sadly, for the rare exceptions, those days are gone, and yet the video game industry is billion dollar cash cow.

dudes should stop playing video games when they either have multiple wives or multiple offspring. even though im not thrilled with my ps3, i do appreciate the convenience and selection of GameFly the same way most of my contemporaries fawn over NetFlix. but i havent given up on my PSP.

Jessie B. R.: Tony. Do you believe in love? xo

i believe that love changes everything. therefore it is the most powerful substance on Earth. love can cure all that hurts you, but it can also make you fly off the handle like a maniac. it can teach you valuable lessons, it can inspire you to create magic, and it can also lead to misery and suffering like no other. so not only do i believe in it but i respect it enough that i only fall in love with about 80% of the people i make out with.

lindsay: what’s your take on roman polanski?

the reason i despise much of the politics surrounding the catholic church is because i dont think theres anything worse that you could do to a human being than to molest a child. our youth is so precious and sex is so trippy that for an adult to intentionally destroy those two delicate parts of human development is damn near unforgivable. therefore i have very little tolerance for a man who did what he did to a 13 year old girl.

for being so twisted youd think hed make better films.

Scott T. Sterling: Why can’t the world just get over the whole Kanye West thing? Even Chris Brown is on the radio again, and no one is saying a word. The hate towards Ye seems to not even be related to Taylor Swift anymore, and is moving into this nebulous, creepy realm similar to much of the current criticism of President Obama (i.e. quietly rooted in racism, although no one will ever admit it). Will there every be such a thing as a ‘post-racial’ America? And can Kanye West come home again?

some people need enemies, frienemies, targets. kayne the victim is a role that he can play in his sleep and create incredible scenarios around when hes awake. ultimately all of this will make him Stronger. chris brown, meanwhile is just a pretty boy who can dance like usher. i dont think its racism. i think kanye is very smart and knows that his current material does not hold up well on a live stage. thus, create some performance art. when you can bring it the way kanye can when hes inspired, the results can be breathtaking. expect his best album in the wake of all this. and a new way to wear socks.

there arent 10 dudes in the states that i read regularily

zona: if you laid all the naked pictures that chicks sent you end to end, would they stretch from L.A to Chicago?

probably, but i bet theyd get stolen before we finished the project.

Andrea: Are you looking forward to any movies coming up?

even though it didnt do so great in this weekends box office, i really wanna see the new Drew Barrymore movie costarring juliette lewis. i also wanna see the new Coen Bros film, and the one from the british guy who invented the office. and i cant wait to see Where the Wild Things Are, like everyone else.

adrienne: what’s going on with everyone’s favourite girl raymi? something’s not right in her world …

im sure if you asked her that very same question that very same way she would give you a clear, sober explanation without the slightest bit flavor. if indeed she is acting out of the ordinary id blame it on the change of seasons. no one likes summer to end.

barry: are Da Bears for reals?

Da Bears are winning, which is good, but they gave up like 87 points to the Detroit Lions. take away two special teams runbacks and two crazy runs from scrimmage and you have a close game. i dont like close games when we’re playing the lions. i also dont like the blue eyed black speedster getting hurt during the same time devin hester got hurt – against the Lions. thank God for bye week.
