brad pitt is filming at our building

thus paparazzi are filming our building

security here is tighter than i have ever seen it. in fact the parking lot gates now have canvas tarps around them so the paps can shoot into Craft Services to watch Mr. Jolie nibble on his egg rolls.

i will have more photos this week as the media circus escalates.

but in the meantime, heres a tweet by our media columnist Jim Rainey from this morning:

Paparazzi all around LA Times building. Foreign dignitary? US political candidate? No Brad Pitt in building filming Money Ball.

Great book if you havent read it yet. Not sure how they can turn it into a film, but i guess thats why Hollywood gets paid the big bucks.

sunday i went to the cubs game with karisa

we were late.

i had a cubs hat on. and the same snoopy cubs shirt ive owned since high school.

karisa wanted to “tailgate” but theres no tailgating at dodger stadium cuz of obama.

but we went to this echo park liquor store anyways and got two 22ouncers (sapporo for her, and a mickey’s for me), two airplane bottles of booze. and a coke. when i walked out of the door this hipster was all “Cubs? Really?”

i was all Really.

he was like, why arent you at the game? i was all, we’re fixin to go! and he was all oh great the Cubs are losing by like 5 already in the 2nd inning.

whatevs dude. get outta my way so i can illegally tailgate. but because we were so late there was a totally free parking space about 100 yards from the dodger stadium gates. so we parked, cracked open our beers and got a nice layer of buzz going for our walk into the park and through the parking lot.

got to the game. cubs were down by 7 at this point and it was already the 5th. got a few more brews. shots. dogs. got our seats in the front row next to fair pole in mannywood.

talked to two nice ladies from Oklahoma. i was all, do you women know of the Mad Pony girls? they were all nah. turned out the mom was taking her daughter to LA for the first time. the daughter had just gotten a cheerleading scholarship. she was going to be a freshman at a little college in OK. they were nice.

enjoyed the game, sobered up. cubs called it quits pretty early. sorta sad. but as always, its very nice to see so many cub fans outside of chicago. we’re a loyal tribe.

one day we will have our day.

i got to write about goats yesterday

goats on the 500 days of summer hill

goats who eat weeds off the 500 days of Summer knoll.

goats who are paid several thousand dollars to eat weeds off a hill.

anyways the most interesting part about the whole craziness of all of it

is that all the photos in the story are from the new iPhone.

at least thats what i find the most interesting part.

because someday lots of journalism will be done

with and from a smart phone.

final thought on LeBron

i think the reason that so many people were disappointed by LeBron’s decision to fly the coop and move his talents to Miami

is because so many people believed that there was something different about LeBron

so many (of us) thought that because he is so special on the court

that he would also be as dazzling and miraculous off the court.

turns out he’s just like us: distracted by the shiny things

and not as appreciative as we should be about whats real.

LeBron James let down a lot of people today

The people of Cleveland, the people of Chicago, the people of New York,

and the one season ticket holder that matters, Clipper Darrell.

but one person who wasnt expected to be disappointed was me, and that weird special was such a bummer it bummed me out for a good two hours.

first of all, where was the production, ESPN? youre dedicating an hour in prime time and thats all you give us? the interview was horrible, the questions and answers were dull, and the buildup was stiffer than King James’ delivery.

but worst of all, the two time MVP put on a huge special to let the world know he was bailing out on his home town for the skimpy shores of South Beach.

and people call us in LA superficial.

Lebron is a hired gun now, not a hometown hero. And he’s not even shrewd – he lost out on $20 in salary.

People say Cleveland isnt a “major market” and bron-bron is missing out on endorsement deals, but ESPN had no problem reeling off one well-seen commercial after another.

People know who LeBron is.

But the best thing that this inspired was a full force guarantee from the principal owner of the shunned Cavs. at the heart of that web statement was this:

You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.

LeBron just went from Kirby Puckett to Reggie Jackson.

he will be booed.

and the booing began tonight.
