from the busblog archives

each time a new girl sends me a naked picture through the email or aim chat, it always startles me for a second.

and i always doubt that its really them.

everyone has pictures of someone being naked and who’s to say that those pixels arent them.

and i know that one day i’ll totally get punk’d by some asswipe pretending to be a hot chick who will catch me believing that some super cute girl from a faraway land would do anything for me because of something that ive writ or because of everything.

this girl is beautiful in a way ive never known. her english is really good which is remarkable, considering.

probably within five minutes of chatting with her i told her i loved her.

and she told me she loved me too.

and today i said what are you wearing

and she said a kiss me im irish tshirt and crotchless panties

and i said would you mind taking a picture of yourself and she said no problem and within a few minutes there it was.

and then a few minutes later there was a naked one.

dear la times,

nobody on your fuckin shit is getting hot swedish gradschool girls to get naked for them.

hire my ass for the blog you need to launch.

nothing is worse than failing to capitalize on a monopoly: it borders on laziness and disrespect

opportunity has knocked for you in such a way here in LA that it’s laying on its back in the front yard and spreading and waiting and yet you come to the door with the guy chronicles man of the house and tj simers?

a good friend said it and its true and its sad: if the new york times launched a blog in december, the la times would have one in january.

and you call yourselves men.

best thing ive seen on tv was the other day when this guy was getting shot at and he was hiding behind a tree that was maybe five inches wide.

the frustration this gunman must have felt missing and missing and missing despite such a huge target behind this skinny tree.

people ask me all the time, how come youre not doing exactly what you want to be doing. what you should be doing.

and i think its that fucking tree in the way. that little barely-there one.

so improbable to be of any consequence in any way but all the difference in the world.

get it together, times.

your pal,

tony

instapundit was doing so good.

old style beer six pack he was even pointing to some of the pictures from the 150,000+ rnc protest yesterday in new york city.

but then today he had to go and link drudge.

of course he did his best not to link drudge directly because that would look, well, slimy. since drudge is slimy and often wrong.

and a towelboy of the right.

the bathroom wall of the conservatives.

the only right-winger who somehow continues to fail at radio despite the fact that we live in this right-wing centric media world where if you are pro-bush and can state your name you can have a radio show.

so today Drudge said that he had clips of the Kerry daughters getting booed at the MTV Video Awards last night.

so of course one of Instapundit’s dittoheads emailed him, probably, and glenn went to drudge’s take and got lucky that the venerable World Net Daily picked it up, so he linked to them, the same website that at the bottom of the MTV article under “related offers” links the swift boaters.

nice source, blogfather.

truth of the matter is the Kerry girls weren’t getting booed. the Bush daughters were getting booed. if you watch the video that glenn links to you can clearly see the audience being very cordial to the girls until MTV inadvertantly showed a feed on a screen above the kerrys of the bush twins.

That’s what caused the booing.

That’s why you see Alexadra Kerry turn around to the screen.

That’s why you dont hear the crowd AT ALL when the Bush daughters said their two lines. Cuz MTV turned down the audio from the crowd because it was a chorus of boos.

which is ironic since the drunken bush girls party harder than many of the rockstars who won awards last night.

whats not only sad that prof. reynolds fell for the drudge mis-reporting of the “booing” but CNN fell for it too.

30,000 people at the American Airlines Arena in Miami last night and nobody who was there could tell you who the kids were booing?

anyway, one day the instapundit will get back to talking about the issues outside of the mtv cheers/boos, outside of linking drudge, and back to writing about the deficit, the economy, the wars we’re still fighting in iraq & afghanistan, the president’s missing records, the missing osama bin ladin, the missing wmd, and of course Riggs Bank.

mtv and drudge are so juicy though, i can see why he would be distracted.

the beastie’s showed their true colors + i want to find leah a better gig

people ask me all the time

jack nicholsen about how i do my photo essays.

heres how i do them. briefly.

first i have my own server/host situation. you will need to host your own stuff unless you’re incredibly clever, but i imagine if you were so clever you’d host your own stuff.

you can get hosted in a variety of places for under $10/month. my man Os charges $20/month but his solution is twice as good as most, and you hardly (if ever) see the busblog go down. to me thats worth a $100 tip each year.

next, i use two programs: Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

Photoshop allows me to tweak the pictures. Because I’m lazy and untalented, all I ever really use in Photoshop nowadays is Auto Levels and Auto Contrast. sometimes to cheat i will blur things in the background or i will darken areas that i want to write over.

sometimes i will use Paint Dabs or something dumb to make it look “arty“. It rarely works.

sometimes i just want to totally parody something, and if i take my time, it will sorta work.

dont get distracted/intimidated by photoshop, sometimes the simple ones are the best.

But the main reason I use Photoshop with every picture is to cut down the image size so it will load faster.

Mostly, the photos are usually untouched. Not because im such a badass photographer but because I am lazy and I havent ever learned how to properly use Photoshop.

The other program I use is Dreamweaver. I know an elementary amount of HTML, but when I use Dreamweaver, i use the “Design” portion only. Sometimes I will use “Design & Code” if i cant figure out why something isnt working. But mostly I do the WYSIWYG.

I only do a few things on Dreamweaver: my favorite is the three column table. I know all the cool kids use CSS and turn their noses on Tables, but im an old man and I know what works for me. And until they can beat my ass with their fancy code they should just chill.

my obey page is the classic three column table. it allows you to put text on different sides of an image.

if you dont use a table, you end up having to cheat like on this page. on that page you can put text on the left side of the sign, but to get something on the right side you have to go down a few lines and then align right.

again im sure CSS has solutions to all of this, but i dont have the time.

Dreamweaver is also my FTP. After I have figured out what picture I’m going to use, and I have typed my text into the code, I FTP the page over to my server using Dreamweaver.

Then I put a picture into photoshop, shrink it or crop it so that it will look nice on the blog, and then I link that picture to the photo essay.

Again, nothing that I am doing is new. I have been doing photoessays for years. I use old programs and old versions of those programs.

i do like it when people mimic my style and give me props when they do photo essays.

imitation is the highest form of flattery, and i am often quite flattered.

the instapundit doesnt want to link me

and i consider that the highest form of respect.

right back at ya, big guy.

i have many issues with the instapundit but none of them are personal. which is rare for me because i pretty much take everything personally.

chalk it up as my biggest flaw.

next to my insanely low self esteem.

and overwhelming disdain of actively pursing any normal type of highly-profitable career.

what i dont get about the instapundit is he’s young, hes successful, hes smart as fuck, he’s down-to-earth, he’s popular, a good family man, in-touch, has a great job as a law professor, holds many interests, and has remained on top of the blogosphere for years now

and yet he refuses to link opposing views on matters of politics on a regular basis. for every one link to a so-called liberal, there are 15-16 links to so-called conservatives. the night before michael moore’s movie came out he claimed that listen missy didn’t like Fahrenheit 9/11 despite the fact that she never even mentioned the film and hadnt even seen the damn thing yet. later he noted his error, but kept her objection up there anyway.

what on god’s green earth could he be afraid of by not linking to people who might have a different feeling about moore, people like, i dont know, me?

could Doc Searls be right? that if “any stick you can whup Bush with is a good stick,” and i, could be the best stick so far?

im sure theres better sticks. but i do agree with doc that i, too, am interested in talking across the the divisions that keep us from talking to each other.

so for Indy, and all his readers who might have missed what went down on the busblog in June, a month i battled chronic tendinitis and carpal tunnel, here are some highlights:

6/1: anna kournikova came over right before the laker game

russian girls normally get it wrong and when they do they do it with their arms crossed.

6/1: dear the pope,

four solid reasons why the pope should be in favor of legalizing marijuana. with a suprise quote from Genesis 1:29.

6/2: A Letter From Chad of Chokey Chicken

in which the graduating high school senior puts me on the spot and asks me to list the top ten most underrated bloggers. so i did:

1. flagrant disregard

2. raymi

3. anti

4. t-money

5. sk smith

6. jaylex

7. angelina

8. raspil

9. bunnie

10. zulieka

6/2 yes it’s true i just had breakfast with the mysterious and glamorous zulieka from zulieka dot com at the pantry in downtown la.

of which she wrote on her blog “4.Tony Pierce. Deceptively cute at first glance, he notices and reads through subtle indications like a poker player. He is so, so quick but he pretends he’s just sitting there. He is both street smart and worldly. After all, he works for the XBI. Thank You Tony for the breakfast. You forgot to mention that I had hashbrowns too, with tabasco sauce.”

6/2 when i think of the president of the united states, this is what i see.

i see a fucking retard.

6/4 today is angelina jolie’s twenty ninth birthday

the mexican lady kept the elevator button mashed in as if it would speed things along. now you know why the elevators are always broken i hissed in spanish.

que?

nada.

6/5 why the president is a fucking retard

if you ever go to the special olympics you will see a spirit that is absent from any other sporting activity you’ll ever witness: unconditional love and reward.

even the slowest, most fumbiling child who finishes a race gets a hug. a loving embrace for participating in the event. a symbol and an action that says, you tried and thats all that matters.

you are loved.

the only institution that mimics this behavoir is the united states of america and it’s relationship to the president of the united states, george bush, and the people and things that he supports.

they treat him like the retard that they know he is

6/6 after calling the sitting president a fucking retard id be a fucking asshole if i didn’t celebrate the death of the president who started all this bullshit.

in which i urinated on the grave of ronald reagan; the man who funded osama, delivered weapons of mass destruction to saddam, sat in his little chair for much longer than seven minutes as AIDS hit america, traded arms for hostages, and illegally funded the contras.

my biggest complaint remains that he is called the great communicator when we can only remember three or four things that he said his whole eight years. the easiest being “tear down this wall,” which of course wasnt torn down until after he left office.

6/6 one day i will die

in which you’re instructed how to act properly when it happens.

6/7 Bukowski: Born Into This

a movie review about the documentary of LA’s finest poet/novelist/drunkard

6/7 Howard Owens writes:

that he’s disappointed with me and dumbfounded by my disrespect of the dead president.

and in which i reply with, well, an awful lot of curse words. and a reminder that the man who killed communism forgot about china, who is doing better than ever these days. and is still very much commie.

mr. reagans death should be a bedtime for bullshit, but how can we even get out of this murky morass of mediocrity if you insist on watering down the genepool of eligible candidates by suggesting that theres something about the incumbent thats admirable.

whats admirable is that he gets out of bed in the morning without bumping his head on the nightstand.

howard, this is america the beautiful. the land that i love.

i shouldnt be able to beat the holy fuck out of the commander in chief in scrabble, let alone economics, common sense, or trivial pursuit.

6/10 top ten reasons oj is not guilty

number ten: the columbian necktie

with special guest quotes from mark fuhrman, f. lee bailey, johnny cochran, katie couric and oj simpson as the juice.

6/12 Dear Tony, Can you please explain to me what the fuck is going on with your Lakers?

here i explained why the lakers weren’t going to lose to detroit in the finals, and how it had something to do with the fact that the team resided in california.

6/14 linda was a teenage runaway.

long hair. bare feet. short nails. hot eyes. brown skin. smooth cheeks. wild mind. hard tongue.

somehow bigger than life. somehow from another place entirely. somehow found the best people to migrate with. somehow made everyone better who she mixed in with.

if msg had eyeliner.

6/16 exclusive interview with shaquille o’neal in which he explains why the refs were unfair to the lakers in the finals

q. why do you think its like that?

a. its easy. its psychology. you see a big huge guy. then you see a bigger huger guy. if the bigger guy is standing there getting fouled by a smaller guy it doesnt look like a foul, it looks like the smaller guy is just trying real hard. but indeed it is a foul. its a real foul. if you prick me, dont i bleed?

q. as a matter of fact, ive never seen you bleed shaq.

a. well, i do. i bleed inside. where it counts.

q. thats sad.

a. im bleeding now.

6/16 how to blog, by tony pierce

the most popular blog post i’ve ever written.

6/17 madpony quits blogging, and the busblog got the exclusive interview

kristin: sigh

dumbass_dumberass: should i blame your bf?

kristin: nah

dumbass_dumberass: whats the reason then?

kristin: i’m just tired of it

6/18 danielle is introduced to the blogosphere

whenever im around the office for lunchtime i like to eat with her cuz shes funny, shes smart, shes brutally honest, and there has never been a topic that she wont discuss with me.

and she hates wearing underwear.

youd be surprised how depressing it can be saving the world. so its nice to have a happy girl to have a half sandwich and soup with on a june gloom friday.

she loves anthropologie and fishing. she likes to hike through the palisades and rich guys with loose wallets. she’ll flash you if you dare her so i dont dare her.

6/19 napoleon dynamite movie review

disguised as a review of the mini glutton bowl that took place at the la film fest outside the cinema.

6/20 oj and courtney and everyone but you

on this post you can follow along as i read aloud (via audblog) a poem i had written exactly ten years ago

6/21 dear amazon dot com are you fucking kidding me?

in which i am critical of the amazon associates program and give a screenshot of my quarterly earnings.

6/22 had the monkey dream again this time with a weird ending

a chimp ripped the page out of his old machine pushed his reading glasses up the bride of his nose crossed his legs and inhaled from his cigarette and exhaled out the corner of his mouth. laughed like monkeys do and without looking reached for his bottle of xxx and took a good swig and kept reading his little masterwork.

“what do you see?” an orangutan asked me and held up a white piece of paper that appeared to have a perfectly symmetrical coffee stain on it.

i see a coffee stain.

6/24 dear michael moore,

i seriously dont know why some people dont like you, but i like you.

i sorta love you.

i think your movies are terrific.

but deeper than that, i love how you make people yearn for 100% absolute truth.

people call you a liar in a way that you’d think that everyone else is completely honest.

6/25 dear vice president haliburton

in which we see the latest Dubya re-election commercial which compares democrats like john kerry, howard dean, and michael moore to hitler.

after being completely picked apart by metafilter, slashdot, and the rest of the web, the rnc changed the begining of the original by adding a twenty second disclaimer.

the new version can be seen on georgewbush.com, it’s called “Kerry’s Coalition of the Wild-eyed”

6/28 Fahrenheit 9/11 a sober film review of the week’s most popular documentary.

in which i answer some of jeff jarvis’s and christopher hitchens’s concerns about the movie.

Jarvis says, “The real problem with the film, the really offensive thing about it, is that in Fahrenheit 9/11, we — Americans from the President on down — are portrayed as the bad guys.”

First of all President Bush in this film is portrayed as much more than just a bad guy. He’s being portrayed as a greedy, dumb, slow-witted, poor-talking, “War President”, who doesn’t know how to win any wars, doesn’t know how to treat soldiers, and isn’t loved by his public.

Are you a bad guy if you send troops into a war and then decrease imminent danger” pay (from $225 to $150) and family separation allowance (from $250 to $100)? Are you a bad guy if you oppose the National Guard from receiving access to the Pentagon’s health insurance system, despite knowing that only about one out of every five Guard members has no health insurance?

6/28 the busblog collection of 11 completely random online movie reviews of Fahrenheit 9/11

ok, i was being sarcastic.

they were 11 glowing reviews of the film, expertly edited to give one big nice even more-glowing review.

but to be fair i linked each paragraph to their original column.

and i also linked the rotten tomatoes site for the 130 positive reviews; and, to be fair, the 25 negative ones.

6/29 suddenly the republicans want to listen to clarke?

in which reader john stinson leaves a comment about how richard clarke said that it was his responsibility that the bin laden family were allowed to leave america on 9/13 when no other charter planes were allowed to fly.

so therefore michael moore’s movie had at least one lie in it when it accused clarke’s boss (at the time) president bush, for having the planes jet off before the fbi could interrogate the members of the powerful family who are very close to the bush family.

mr. stinson is greeted with a handful of other clarke quotes to mull over.

6/29 i swear we’ll talk about babes soon begins with our buddy howard owens back again accusing yours truly of hating on bush because for the sole reasons that he’s republican and im a liberal.

to which i explain that in recent history ive voted for just as many dems as repubs. that i like several of the planks of the main parties. and that i dont like bush because he feels it necessary to bullshit me, and my countrymen, who have mastered the art of bullshitting so well that atop my blog theres a clear warning of untruths ahead.

and i hate cuz hes dumb.

and in a brilliant little line, i summed up the irony of the theme of freedom. something that the president constantly claims to be bringing to the people of iraq even though he is against freedoms in the united states like gay marriages, abortions, presidential election recounts, free speech on the radio and tv, and the legalization of drugs that he himself has “experimented” with at great length and knows to be harmless:

freedom is a double edged sore.

but mostly in that line i was saying that when we as a country were at our most free we were also at our most vulnerable

and every once in a while you have to pay the price of so much freedom

but you shouldnt freak out about having to pay that price.

it’s just part of the deal.

and later i ask not to be called a liberal.

not everyone who thinks bush is bad is a liberal.

some people just don’t like being lied to in regards to why this country goes to war.

other people don’t like being lied to about when public people are asked about their private sex life.

me, i couldn’t care less about what you do sexually in the privacy of your oval office, but don’t bullshit me about real matters of life and death.

and don’t call me a liberal.

im an american, i can think for myself.

maybe the blogfather simply just overlooked the busblog. maybe im not interesting enough. maybe i dont write well enough. maybe i dont have enough fresh ideas.

maybe i’ll just have to concentrate harder in july.

buzzmachine + tim blair + welch is back from romania

weeks after madpony started, the busblog was telling you about them. two sweet oklahoman sisters. one in highschool, one in a sorority at ou. but these were different sisters from oklahoma than all the others. they were special.

how to blog

by tony pierce, 110

1. write every day.

2. if you think youre a good writer, write twice a day.

3. dont be afraid to do anything. infact if youre afraid of something, do it. then do it again. and again.

4. cuss like a sailor.

5. dont tell your mom, your work, your friends, the people you want to date, or the people you want to work for about your blog. if they find out and you’d rather they didnt read it, ask them nicely to grant you your privacy.

6. have comments. dont be upset if no one writes in your comments for a long time. eventually they’ll write in there. if people start acting mean in your comments, ask them to stop, they probably will.

7. have an email address clearly displayed on your blog. sometimes people want to tell you that you rock in private.

8. dont worry very much about the design of your blog. image is a fakeout.

9. use Blogger. it’s easy, it’s free; and because they are owned by Google, your blog will get spidered better, you will show up in more search results, and more people will end up at your blog. besides, all the other blogging software & alternatives pretty much suck.

10. use spellcheck unless youre completely totally keeping it real. but even then you might want to use it if you think you wrote something really good.

11. say exactly what you want to say no matter what it looks like on the screen. then say something else. then keep going. and when youre done, re-read it, and edit it and hit publish and forget about it.

12. link like crazy. link anyone who links you, link your favorites, link your friends. dont be a prude. linking is what seperates bloggers from apes. and especially link if you’re trying to prove a point and someone else said it first. it lends credibility even if youre full of shit.

13. if you havent written about sex, religion, and politics in a week youre probably playing it too safe, which means you probably fucked up on #5, in which case start a second blog and keep your big mouth shut about it this time.

14. remember: nobody cares which N*Sync member you are, what State you are, which Party of Five kid you are, or which Weezer song you are. the second you put one of those things on your blog you need to delete your blog and try out for the marching band. similarilly, nobody gives a shit what the weather is like in your town, nobody wants you to change their cursor into a butterfly, nobody wants to vote on whether your blog is hot or not, and nobody gives a rat ass what song youre listening to. write something Real for you, about you, every day.

15. dont be afraid if you think something has been said before. it has. and better. big whoop. say it anyway using your own words as honestly as you can. just let it out.

16. get Site Meter and make it available for everyone to see. if you’re embarrassed that not a lot of people are clicking over to your page, dont be embarrassed by the number, be embarrassed that you actually give a crap about hits to your masterwork. it really is just a blog. and hits really dont mean anything. you want Site Meter, though, to see who is linking you so you can thank them and so you can link them back. similarilly, use Technorati, but dont obsess. write.

17. people like pictures. use them. save them to your own server. or use Blogger’s free service. if you dont know how to do it, learn. also get a Buzznet account. several things will happen once you start blogging, one of them is you will learn new things. thats a good thing.

18. before you hit Save as Draft or Publish Post, select all and copy your masterpiece. you are using a computer and the internet, shit can happen. no need to lose a good post.

19. push the envelope in what youre writing about and how youre saying it. be more and more honest. get to the root of things. start at the root of things and get deeper. dig. think out loud. keep typing. keep going. eventually you’ll find a little treasure chest. every time you blog this can happen if you let it.

20. change your style. mimic people. write beautiful lies. dream in public. kiss and tell. finger and tell. cry scream fight sing fuck and dont be afraid to be funny. the easiest thing to do is whine when you write. dont be lazy. audblog at least once a week.

21. write open letters. make lists. call people out on their bullshit. lead by example. invent and reinvent yourself. start by writing about what happened to you today. for example today i told a hot girl how wonderfully hot she is.

22. when in doubt review something. theres not enough reviews on blogs. review a movie you just saw, a tv show, a cd, a kiss you just got, a restaurant, a hike you just took, anything.

23. constantly write about the town that you live in.

24. out yourself. tell your secrets. you can always delete them later.

25. dont use your real name. dont write about your work unless you dont care about getting fired.

26. dont be afraid to come across as an asswipe. own your asswipeness.

27. nobody likes poems. dont put your poems on your blog. not even if theyre incredible. especially if theyre incredible. odds are theyre not incredible. bad poems are funny sometimes though, so fine, put your dumb poems on there. whatever.

28. tell us about your friends.

29. dont apologize about not blogging. nobody cares. just start blogging again.

30. read tons of blogs and leave nice comments.

if you’re going to ripoff/mimic/be inspired by one blogger make it raymi, shes perfect.

A Letter From Chad

of Chokey Chicken

Tony –

Just wanted to say that I watched the Miss Universe 2004 competition tonight, because it’s all you’ve been talking about lately. It was a good time – and for the record, I picked Mrs. Australia from the second I saw her. Great choice. Anyway, in the light of Miss Universe, I came up with a few questions that you are welcome to answer on the busblog: I figured, if anything, should give you good writing material:

** Q. If you could hang out with one famous person for a day, who would it be and why? (Dead or alive.)

A. Jesus. I would like to know what he likes and doesnt like about modern times. What if he doesn’t care about pornography, but really hates tooth decay? I think He is probably the most misunderstood historical person and I would like to know how we’re misunderstanding Him today.

** Q. Who are the top 10 underrated bloggers on the Internet?

A. this is bound to hurt some feelings, so thanks for putting me on the spot. by “underrated” i will say that i dont see them getting the same amount of praise and recognition that i do. and all of these people kick my ass in several ways and i enjoy watching them do it. they’re all regular reads of mine and i love what they do. So, in no particular order:

1. flagrant disregard

2. raymi

3. anti

4. YYY

5. sk smith

6. jaylex

7. angelina

8. raspil

9. bunnie

10. zulieka

and there are dozens more…

** Q. You claim to be a devout Christian, and a priest, as far as I know. Yet you constantly cuss and have sex before marriage. Whats up with that, Mr. Priest?

A. First of all Priests are generally ministers of the Catholic church. I was baptised Catholic and raised Catholic but I am no longer Catholic. I am simply Christian.

As for cussing and having sex before marriage. There is nothing about either of those things that is wrong in the eyes of the bible.

there is a passage that says “it’s not what goes into your mouth, but what comes out of your mouth” (that you should be careful about.) But that is usually understood as meaning, “who cares if you eat kosher, veggie, and take your vitamins, how about not being such a fucking sexist racist loudmouth judging prick.”

we struggled with the concept of dont eat the fruit of that tree or you will die. so i imagine God knew that if he told us not to say certain words our head would probably explode or we’d name all our kids fucky out of spite.

language is one of the most wonderful parts of being a human, one of the coolest things that the Lord blessed us with, and if you ask me the best part of what seperates us from apes. without a healthy understanding and respect of “cussing” we would never have reached this, the era of wtf.

Sex before marriage is allowed as long as you aren’t doing it with a member of your family, animals, or married people.

(Divorced people are sometimes still considered married people since in most weddings they say things like “until death do we part” and “let no man tear apart what God has brought together.”)

And it’s not the sex part that is the sin, it’s the breaking of the commitment to your spouse and God that’s at issue.

Even the most active humans ending up having sex less than 1% of their lives (divide minutes of having sex into minutes alive). It’s not suprising that it’s talked about approximately that much in the good book as well.

** ** Q. What’s your top 5 favorite movies of all time?

A. 1. The Blues Brothers

2. Jurrasic Park

3. The Jerk

4. Old School

5. Ferris Beuller’s Day Off

Q. What’s your dream girl?

A. a cross between raymi, karisa, miss montreal, tiffany, and my true love. except super horny.

** Q. If you could be born in one time period, what would it be and why?

A. everything cool that has happened in technology happened as i was growing up at the perfect time for me to understand it. similarilly theres no way i would have been able to study in college if the internet was around. and without my college degree i wouldnt have been considered to be in the xbi. so even though im older than a lot of the kids in the blogosphere, i really am glad that i grew up in a simpler time before cable and before the web, because i was able to do little things like use my imagination and write stories on paper. sometimes i would even read a book.

** Q. Why don’t you have a contest with the prize being the honor of taking over the busblog for a day?

A. ive had guest writers on the busblog before and it wasnt received as nicely as i was hoping it would be. plus i think people come here to read what i have to say. i think i do a better than average job of spreading the love in other ways.

also its sorta like saying, heres a contest with the prize being the honor of fucking my wife for a few hours. fuck your own fucking wife.

🙂

thanks for the email Chad.

sharp-eyed reader rick rock

was correct in noticing that the paper of record didnt mention my age in today’s article on bloggers.

did they ask me my age? yes.

did they ask several times over several phone calls? yes.

did i ever give them my actual age? hell no.

if i havent told you, my dear readers, why would i tell strangers just because theyre being persistant?

i dont give my age on the blog for lots of reasons, and I told the NY Times, who i respect and admire.

the first being that age is rarely relevant in any discussion that doesnt have to do with statutory rape, bilking social security, or underage drinking.

but mostly i am interested in having my stories and my writings judged solely on the tales and the storytelling.

age only allows for generalizations and discriminations that arent necessarilly the truth. when i say that im 110 years old, im saying that im old. isnt that enough?

we live in a time where youth is foolishly glamourized and idealized and allowed special treatment despite the fact that even though some kids are incredible, most are dumbassed twits who look good in miniskirts because they’re, well, young.

for example, if youre a marginal singer and youre 16 years old, you can be the runner-up for American Idol. but if youre a dynamite singer and over 25 you cant even audition. thats fucked up, particuliarly because i just saw Prince, who is no longer a teenager, kick everyones ass, of any age, several times over.

why cant the media figure out a way to get him in front of 50 million tv viewers?

because the media has a hardon for the “next big thing” and they turn their backs on established stars the minute they drop out of the top 40.

the media’s obsession with youth is no different than other forms of agism that i have to battle on the daily.

for example, if a young woman wants to make out with a 110 year old blogger suddenly everyone claims that shes being taken advantage of, and the blogger is branded as some sexcrazed cradlerobber– even if the dirty old man is far cooler and takes better care of her than some pimplefaced freak with a slipknot tshirt, herpes, and a permanant boner.

my stupid age in relation to a fluff peice about obsessive blogging has absolutely nothing to do with the story, and the exclusion of my age subracted zero from the tale being spun.

the habit that the NYT and other papers and magazines have of including ages in the descriptions of their subjects is lazy journalism that distorts the story in more cases than adding to them.

who cares that “joe schmoe, 57, owner of Local Icecream Shop” who got robbed tuesday is 57 years old? it’s only useful information if joe was 157 or 15, because then it would possibly be the cause of the robbery. and thats why i call the blanket use of ages lazy journalism.

i have great respect for the new york times. but not everything they do is perfect.

i dont have a girlfriend. i never said to the reporter that i had a girlfriend. i told a perfect antedote about how my obsessive blogging lead to strife with a girl who had spent the night at my house.

i said that she heard me wake up at 6am, and asked me to wake her up at 7:30am so we could be on time for work.

what happened was i blogged until 8:10am and woke her up after i was done and that led us to being late which re-started a long going little arguement that she has with me that i should spend the night more often at her house, so that we wouldnt be so late in the mornings.

but because i dont like her setup as it irritates the carpel tunnel that i fight with BECAUSE of my obsessive blogging, and because i dont like using iMacs, oftentimes she spends the night at my house.

but in this world where writers want everything to fit in a perfect box of “girlfriends” “age 111” and “scheduler” you miss out on the fine details of human experience, and in this case, in an interesting tale.

for the record i didnt even bother to tell them that i was an undercover agent in the xbi and i told them the one lie that i tell all reporters, that i am a scheduler for a large entertainment company.

to which they say cool and go back to trying to get me to reveal my age.

which matters less than where i work and what astrological sign i am.

and yes, this might be the last interview that i grant the press because these things never turn out the way i hope they will. which is “Fucking A: Tony Pierce the Man!”

but at least today my mom will be proud that her son is in a fancy ass paper for mostly good reasons.

and im very suprised and grateful that they linked me directly in their electronic version.

grateful because no i can invite the thousands of hits that they sent me to one of my all-time favorite “obsessive” bloggers, jay mccarthy, whose home burned down the other day and is now feeling gulity that his blog-reading is falling behind. thats the sort of guy he is.

jay’s site, makeoutcity.com, is the epitome of a good blogger who appreciates the blogs and spends a great amount of time reading and writing about the whole whateverthisis.

people are talking about moveable type

when they should be talking about how for every good mt blog theres a blogspot blog that kicks its ass.

so smart and yet forget that it starts with the writing.

and it ends with the writing.

you can have andrew sullivan and his lies about how much money he makes off his blog.

i’ll take meesh or kate or bunnie

if youre an artist, fine, use moveable type, youre selling design.

but if you cant keep it real on the internet

of all places…

i say no one should be allowed to even consider switching off from blogger unless your blogger blog totally kicks ass

for a year.

in the meantime try to write as well as zulieka or bunny or anti

or amy

or alecia

or franklin ave.

if you want design, do what steve smith did and try a new blogger skin.

see how nice kimbalina‘s is?

the bored housewife’s has always looked nice

jaime‘s has always been simple and pure and great.

you know how useless moveable type is? four of my favorite writers are on diaryland

Diaryland!

sk smith + kitty bukkake + and the currently not safe for work xtracyx

and besides, raymi is better than all the fucking moveable type blogs all put together.

george must go + virginia + dirty fez + steph

i have to put myself on a timeout.

motorheadi usually dont blog about blogging in that i dont make excuses for the times that i dont blog, and i dont tell you when im not going to blog because i hate it when i read that on other peoples shit.

im usually like, so what. who cares. what makes you think that i give a shit that youre not going to be blogging today, just write fucker.

but the busblog is a little different because i really do write several times a day and i wouldnt want people to think that chopper one went down and theres tragedy.

so heres whats going to be going on. today i have an appointment with the xbi. apparently i was shot and didnt even know it. so theyre going to take that slug out of me. then i have my yearly appointment with the agency shrink where all i will do is lie and lie and lie. its the only time in my real life that i lie.

q. how do you like your job as a…. helicopter pilot?

a. i love it.

q. are there any issues that you would like to bring up?

a. nope. i love everything.

q. are you getting along with your coworkers?

a. oh yeah. completely.

q. where do you see yourself in a year at the xbi?

a. hopefully doing the same thing. i love my job, i love chopper one. if i could do this for the rest of my life i would be a happy man.

q. do you ever go through periods of depression?

a. only when the cubs break my heart.

q. hahahaha yes, but on the job?

a. no.

q. the violence never gets to you?

a. i dont consider it violence. its just part of the gig.

q. really?

a. if i wanted a desk job i woulda kept my job at microsoft.

q. are you happy with your salary?

a. i get a salary?!

q. are there any improvements that you would like the agency to implement?

a. last year we had a Consierge service. they would do things like get our drycleaning done, get us concert tickets, go grocery shopping for us, etc. then they took it away. i know that i bring in enough revenue for a consierge staff of 10 people. i liked that service. i didnt use it much except for renting and returning movies but the fellas sure loved it.

and then i will get drunk and cry.

tomorrow i will get the rare opportunity of seeing my little brother. yes i have a little brother. he’s 6′ 2″ so not that little anymore. but the plan is to hang with him while hes here for spring break and show him a good time tomorrow.

then on saturday a special guest from the blogosphere, the grapevine tells me, will be in town. i hope to meet her and entertain her over the weekend. and then wednesday through friday i hope she gets back from vegas and we get to hang out some more.

there will be photographs.

not a lot of blogging.

but there will be spring breaking and photographs.
