bree texted me and said she read my Rage item on FB

according to their drummer, the band has officially broken up for good this time

so i put it on my FB because technically my contract is up at setlist until (hopefully) late next week, otherwise I would have pitched it to her.

well she’s all powerful so she asked if i could write it, without a contract, and of course i said yes bc i have loved writing for her and that site and this is interesting news of their demise

and, naturally, we agreed on something very hard: write about the songs they never played live in their career – specifically tunes they recorded but never performed.

since their last studio album came out 20 years ago you’d think they’d have exhausted all of them, but no, there were Six Songs Rage Never Played And Never Will if they continue to be at each other’s throats.

so i researched them all, none of which were familiar to me, and got to present them today which made me so very happy bc i love writing about rock music. and history. and kickass bands. and rare shit. and things no one else is writing about.

bad news from the mechanic

the benz has a thing that tells you when you need to come in for an oil change.

mine was 1,700 miles overdue, because i knew they’d give me a laundry list of things that needed done. but i had to do it.

they told me i have an oil leak, coolant leak, and i was no longer handsome.

all things i knew.

then they told me my shocks were completely gone. after calling around town, the estimate would be $1,400. but they told me i could still uber to earn that money and then give it all to them.

so thats the plan.

it was funny bc someone gave me a lead on a FT job that i thought hmmm do i want to do that? i was on the fence. now im not so sure i have the luxury of being on the fence. i feel like i have to take every job i can do in 2024 to get out of debit, to keep my car running, and keep my head above water.

crazy thing is i think i can do a million jobs this year if i can get a handle on my ADHD, but the pills my doc are giving me aren’t doing it for me. not even close. i am More distracted these days than I was a year ago.

in part because of all the things i do for money. those things rattle around in my head and i have a million ideas and i want to do them all bc they are good ideas, and then theres the podcast and the Uber book neither of which pay the rent yet. but the Uber tales do get fantastic reviews.

thank God i dont have a wife and kid to support right now.

we will all laugh at this in the future and be all, “you were That old and behind the 8 ball that much and then things got better? so cool.”

you dirty little

when i was in college i was overly blessed. i was on the radio every week, wrote in the paper every day, i got to read and write around all these  smart kids in the college of creative studies where you were rewarded for being creative instead of punished.

and i worked all these crazy jobs.

the best was being an editor at the daily nexus. to my great lucky they let me write for all the desks including being allowed to write numerous opinion columns.

back then on campus everyone read the paper. not only were we award winning but it was very funny and in the opinion pages no topic was taboo.

apparently one of them made their way to the real paper, the santa barbara news press and when they were looking for someone to write a column in their “Student Voice” deal, i got a phone call (there was no email back then).

they were gonna pay me $50 to write a column, but it had to be specific to the campus. that was easy, our campus government approved an expensive recreation center that they barely vetted. in hindsight we were right, but that thing is pretty damn cool.

the problem was, i didnt like the news press. mostly because they didnt hire any of us after we graduated. they had one guy and that was it. meanwhile we were extremely good, winning state, beating all the big schools usc, ucla, berkeley, the daily nexus should have been a pipeline to that paper.

so after i turned in my piece i got a phone call, they wanted to know a few things about me for the front page. anything look odd?

honor roll? me? excuse me as i die laughing.

also, it showed how little the news press knew about ucsb, creative studies doesnt have grades, how would i have a 3.9 gpa?

also, isnt that something you should be fact checking, particularly on something youre putting on your front page, in color (which was expensive back then)?

regardless it was dickish, i shouldta done it. not that anyone would have noticed. but it fed into my belief that that paper needed more nexus ppl over there

because where do you think i learned

fact check every damn thing

my new famila

I’m someone who doesn’t remember names. I couldn’t be a politician. They say a great politician can remember everyone’s name.

Because I broke out of my game plan and foolishly took a 23 year old Hawaiian babe dating a 40 year old to Agoura, I was in Calabasas at 1:30am when I got a ping that basically said, if you can make it to Ventura by 2:30 we’ll give you $70 to take them to LAX.

Got there at 2:20. Whole family is outside. Very loving very funny. 4 people 2 suitcases 3 back packs. The 18 year old is pregnant. The 17 year old wants to go to Holland for her gap year. I keep telling mom I’d like to be husband #3 bc everyone is so adorable.

And I will probably never forget their names because we spent an hour in the middle of the night talking about Tex Mex, what Kobe and Brenda are going to name the baby, and how idiotic men are.

Did you or your husband name your firstborn Kobe?

Me!

Which was your favorite era Kobe, as far as hotness? Young Kobe? Clean Shaven Kobe? Bearded Kobe?

Every Kobe was fine, she said.

Darkly, right as we were passing where his helicopter crashed.

But I didn’t say shit.

can i tell you how happy i am?

im on top of the world

i drove great yesterday i drove great today

one ride was bad because he rolled down his window and we didnt talk for an hour

it was so boring i had to keep pinching myself from falling asleep

but because im the luckiest man alive i got a ride back to two blocks from my mansion

with a black model whose family is from nigeria

i told her she needs to call dov charney at los angeles apparel bc i dont think they have any black models and shes superblack its nice

all the other rides were delightful

accidentally was at the forum when the wrestling match let out

i thought it was going on later in the night but no

got a ping to go to the sizzler over there so i thought i was safe

but that intersection was jam packed so at the stop light i called and said where are you wave your hand

for some reason she was looking the opposite direction

so i said turn around and as soon as the light turns green RUN to the benz at the cross walk

it was hectic because it was this mexican mom, her adorable 6 year old daughter WHO KNEW EVERY WRESTLER THERE, and her sister

they told me they dont run.

it was hilarious.

i laughed at their funny jokes. they laughed at mine. we had the kid telling jokes.

when i dropped them off i said ok annabelle, stay in school, dont do drugs!

the mom nearly fell over laughing

christmas eve

christmas eve is a great time to remember
joseph had one job
and it wasn’t to book a jr suite
at the bethlehem ritz

his job was to be the best boo
for mary
a virgin minding her business
when everything changed

christmas eve reminds us
life is nuts
so hold her hand real nice

trimmed a tree with the pals

it was good times.

this morning i woke up with a very slight hangover. i was all whaaaa? but i did imbide on some of the special rum punch with something holiday in there. cinnamon?

it was delicious.

great chats. kim’s tiny ham sandwiches. all was merry and gay.

this young woman i didnt recognize was all great hat.

i waved because yes it is great but i had to catch up with ppl i knew.

then later at the firepit there she was with her friends and she said it again

i was all omg where in chicago are you from

turned out its a whole family that lives two houses away from kim and os and theyre chicagoan

very fun convo that one was too.

then me and jason were talking about a tv show and i think i may have given him a good idea

how you like that!

on the way there i was thinking about taking an uber, but it was like $32. so i said mama mia maybe i should just drive someone and see if i can get $18.

so i turned on my Lyft and i got a guy going from silver lake to pasadena but super close to where i was going and it paid me $17.40

because LA is a company town, he told me he is a showrunner for a top rated tv show

so that was fun too

some nights you cant lose

might of also helped layne get his youtube channel going.

see thats the thing, for friends i will do anything.

imagine if i was like this to everyone

even my enemies.

which is what the good book dares us to do.

had a great talk with a tech guy from Go Daddy yesterday

he even gave me his email address, which – wow – talk about customer service.

my issue was when we moved from tonypierce.com to busblog.com a lot of the links were broken and never became less broken.

so he told me to buy this $150 package of help request tickets.

i think thats how it works. each one is $15 and you can say something like “fix my broken links” and they’ll do their best.

we’ll see how that goes.
