danielle in love

our blonde bff in sd is out of her blue period

I met someone.
I didnt want to write about it because I felt like if I did
I would somehow sabotage it.
I felt like if I were to write down how I never thought
I could feel this way again
it would dissipate before I would wake up the next day.
I felt like the second I would write the joy in love
that somehow I would have been wrong
and that it would all come down
crashing and burning.
But I must rid myself of this thinking to move forward.
His name is Chris and it is less about him or me and more
about us together I believe.
Chris inspires me to write him love notes and leave them
scattered throughout his apartment for him
to find randomly.
He inspires me to be content at this transitional time in my life.
In fact I cannot remember the last time I have been content.
I think about Chris all the time and I like it.
I save his messages and read them over again and smile.
I love to kiss him
and I love how many different kisses he gives me.
I love our long gazing looks that speak so deeply
without saying anything.
I love feeling his body next to mine even if it is only
a light brush up against my arm or the touch of our hands together.
I love watching him
and I like it when he watches me.

read the whole thing on keeping it real

the countdown to summer begins!

so lets hear Children of Bodom do Vivaldi’s “summer”

and now an actual child doing the same thing

its very nice to see that metal lives. girls, make out with that kid. its the only way to encourage the future

(however the fact that according to the YouTube counters, each of these vids have racked up over 1.9 million views, i suppose thats some mighty nice encouragement already

guess who has a new blog?

yep, the LA Times

probably the best kept secret on the interwebs is that one of the most popular sections of one of the most popular news web sites is created by omg our readers.

every month millions of pages are clicked in our user generated section called Your Scene. last october people uploaded tons of photos documenting the fires that ravished lots of LA. in novemember the traffic went down a little, but when we noticed that the more we allowed my coworker Lindsay to curate the galleries the more people returned to Your Scene.

over the last few months we’ve had record breaking growth at YS so we decided to start using our readers’ pics more often in our blogs. two of our most popular blogs, LA Now and LA Land use the pics wonderfully and we hope to see that trend continue.

because Lindsay often spins her seat around and says Tony, you HAVE to see this picture! i said we HAVE to get you a blog so that you can show everyone, not just me, whats going on in these galleries.

thus the Your Scene blog was created. Lindsay and former Blog Editor Bettie Rinehart, who also helped initially launched Your Scene, run the blog, wonderfully.

go for the photos, stay for the headlines, and the morning adorable.

laurita says im her idol. shes the one going to law school, so shes my idol.

theres nothing better than a smart girl.

two smart girls maybe.

i read laura a long time ago and for some reason we never talked till now.

the other night we talked about some blogs that we read.

all i have to say is you people have stories to tell and pretty blogs, i wish you’d write in them.

i hate that our friends and family, or the fear about friends and family keep people from telling their stories.

something must be done.

this is the first time in mankind that people from all over the world, completely different people, can tell each other what its like to live where they live and do the things that they do.

why hold back?

xbi called me this morning. apologized for calling on our company vacation. gnarly shit going down in the valley, where its been super hot.

i didnt want to go to the super hot. and i didnt go to sleep last night till five.

karisa still had my flying car so i took a cab into the office

los angeles this morning was glorious, people of earth. warm, clear, smooth, sweet.

he didnt say nothing to me and i didnt say nothing to him.

the jazz coming out of the boom box on the passengers front seat sounded like monk i could barely hear it behind the bullet proof glass.

when i was a kid i rode in a car by a current pro baseball player and i sat in the back seat and i thought i wonder if anyone knows who this guy is driving, that they just cheered for him a few hours ago.

this morning i thought i wonder if this taxi driver knows that what hes saying on his cell phone right now is being heard by one of the few people who could fuck his shit up in a major way.

cops say that the bad guys are all asleep on a saturday morning.

sometimes theyre driving cabs totally sober.

sometimes theyre in the back seat totally hung.

where’s Laurita’s blog now, Goobita? gone. sigh.

where’s Laurita now? married, (adorable) child. double sigh.

one of the finest things ive seen the LA Times do recently

is a special tribute to the 491 Californian veterans who have died in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

in order to best acknowledge the fallen you can search for them by name, age, high school, hometown, date of death, place of death, cemetery, and several other ways. the most heartbreaking, to me at least, is to see how many were engaged when they died.

we just launched this today. i recommend that everyone visits it throughout this memorial day weekend because its pretty amazing and sobering.

thanks for your questions!

here, after the Luna Halo video are my anskers

Dan threatens: so uhh… *ahem* uhh… Vancouver next month? I swear I will ask this every week from here on in until you say yes! Also, do you have any tips for avoiding (or better, reversing) job/industry burn-out?

not going to van next month. id go if foxxy would return my calls. id go if i wasnt changing the world. id go if i wasnt going to oregon early in the month. id go if i didnt have the best job ever.

the way to avoid or reverse job/industry burn-out is quit your job immediately and only sign on with companies who you respect and who respect you right back. also surround yourself with smart people at work. only smart people. if the smart people around you all agree that your workplace blows then be the smartest one and quit.

timmay!!!!! lists: 1. anything to say about obama filling in for kennedy at the wesleyan commencement?

(damn “watershed moment” is taking place just three miles from where i grew up)

2. will the dems narrowly defeat mccain or trounce mccain in a telephone free landslide victory?

3. will the celtics win one of the next two games?

1. i feel badly for the grads because when i saw obama he wasnt all that awesoma.

2. the winner of the next election will be the one who has control over the voting machines.

3. the celtics are like the yankees. they bought that team. bought teams always lose on the road. they dont deserve to play the lakers. itd be nice if they did cuz the lakers would sweep em. but they dont deserve it. if you cant win in atlanta you will never win in staples.

bicyclemark offers: Can I get you anything from Thailand?

1. one of everything please. and some tom kha kai. extra spicy.

panajane asks: There is a bar. It’s full of badasses and bad seeds, mean motherfuckers. As you enter the bar what song would play?

Tsar “Straight”

People try to talk, try to waste my time
everybody’s chatter puts a weight on my mind
but I fake it and I make it like I don’t understand
Got a chemical smile
I’m a moustache man

And I’m straight (straight)
each and every way
People come from miles just to hear me say
that I’m straight (straight)
I’m bent like a stick
Goin out with a bang, comin’ in with the click
Cuz I’m stra-i-a-aight
stra-i-a-aight
stra-i-a-aight
stra-i-a-aight
And now

People think they’re straight but they’re bent like a hook
See Dick Jane every trick in the book
Gonna get your mini van
get your Vons Club on
There’s somethin’ here to steal from everyone

And I’m straight
and this is the style
every Dianetic on the Miracle Mile knows
knows I’m straight (straight)
I said Hell yeah
Goin’ through the Devil like a bat outta Hell
Stra-i-a-aight
stra-i-a-aight
stra-i-a-aight
stra-i-a-aight
And the whole world has to answer right now
tell you once again, who’s straight?

There’s gonna come a day
maybe wont be long
flippin’ through the funny papers of who’s come and gone
You can try to glean a meaning in the message I leave
you’ll find I’m straight and will beyond belief

Straight!

zona doles up: would you ever give it up to teach it at a college or university?

Yes but first I would like to have something worthwhile to teach em.

Mike wonder: have you heard of Luna Halo? Do you like their sound?

Havent. No. They should go back to being hair dressers.

Smelly Danielly offers: Ok so I asked you questions last Friday but then missed your Saturday answers so I don’t know what they were and I can’t go back to read it. Do you have archives or no?! How do I find them!?

I do have archives but theyre hidden. I want people to come here every day. No backsies. No wait till Fridaysies. Just nowsies. Like now, see?
