here i am in the hotel restaurant

waiting on some ham n eggs

thinking about the cool people i hung with

thinkin about some of the cool tshirts i saw

thinkin about all the Good bands i saw

remembering all the cool haircuts i seen

recalling all the randoms who asked me to take their picture

reliving all the tasty meals i ate

grateful for the killer access i received

close enough to peer into the souls of legends

close enough to steal dance moves from the stars

close enough to reconnect with blogging heroes

and lucky enough to hang with a Red River pioneer, right there on Red River

you know who was good?

everybody.

you know what i wanna bring next time

a bike.

and you

i’ll be back. dont fret.

holy courtny

yep this is what it looked and sounded like yesterday afternoon at stubbs

man that seems like 100 years ago.

if you notice, even though Hole was the Spin party headliner, they still had to share the stage with Muse’s equipment (who played later last night)… as if they were an opening act

whatevs, mines is foreverz

anyways heres video of courtney rippin on brett michaels from poison (nsfw)

now i know why brett favre keeps retiring

cuz at the end of it youre exhausted but you cant go to sleep

your feet have blisters and your nose is all plugged up from cigarette smokers

the ringing in yr ears wont stop

and your brain refuses to mellow out.

youve been attacked at all senses.

prettiest girls ever kiss you and hug you and slide their hands down your back pocket

and you’ll never see these girls again.

youre staying at a fancy hotel with a rooftop pool but you aint got no time to swim.

you barely have time to shower.

courtney wants to be the girl with the most cake, but too much cakell make you puke

and there were several times, just today, where i wanted to puke.

from too much good stuff.

even the worst meal i ate here: a pulled pork sandwhich from a street vendor didnt get me sick

but as of right now, 359am, i am sickofitall.

not sure if i will be back here next year.

its a lot of expended energy. concentrated everything.

its like speed dating with rock.

now i want to retire and spend a few weeks in maui.

which no offense austin might be exactly what i do next time around.

part of my preview of todays SXSW rock

on the LA Times music blog Pop N Hiss

Canada’s answer to both Billy Bragg and Ryan Adams, Matthew Good, plays the cozy basement of Prague just south of Congress on 5th Street at 11 p.m. Good doesn’t tour the States often, so if you missed him at the Troubadour earlier this week, this might be your last chance to see him in the U.S.

Mimicking the Beatles in a weird way, sorta, Sum 41 will bring its pop punk to the roof of Maggie Mae’s at midnight.

Then, finally, if you couldn’t get into the Spin party, Hole is playing a late-night (1 a.m.) show at the Dirty Dog Bar on 6th Street. If you don’t want to end your night with some celebrity skin, you’re missing the point of this grand melange of excess. Go rock.

what did i leave out?

that Quiet Company is playing tonight.

why did i leave it out? BECAUSE LAST TIME I WROTE IT BILL MURRAY SHOWED UP AND I WASNT THERE

ME THE ONE WITH THE CUBS HAT EVERYWHERE!

im going tonight to see them but im not saying where.

difficult choices need to be made

hole is playing Stubbs at the same time that Gwar is being interviewed at the convention center

meanwhile Victoria Williams is doing a 15(!) minute set.

likewise when Matt Good is playing all these other great bands are playing too.

and right before that Sum 41 is playing on a roof and She and Him are playing a cool place

but Quiet Company is playing far away.

of course i will see Hole and Matt Good and sadly miss Quiet Company

and probably not see Leah and Taylor

or my other pals in Austin

a week just isnt enough.

this place is a ginormous whirlwind of earthly delights.

my feet hurt. in a good way.

you know why people hook up so much here?

cuz of the vibes. so many bands, so many good people, enough SPACE for everyone

awesome temperatures, lots of hotels, lots of dancing, lots of sweating

and then the music stops and you run over to the next place

and there someone BETTER is playing

then you go in the convention center and theres all these pillows

so you can superdooper chill and charge yr ish.

then you get home to change into your pants and you see your friends online

and you wanna tell them each that you love them so.

like SO!

then you have to hurry outta the room cuz you gotta see if STP stills got it.

true story:

was walking back from a panel at sxsw

i see a sign on the IFC house that the Sword is going to play at 6pm.

i look down to my sundial watch and i see its nearly 6pm

i go into the house, i drink a free beer, i eat a nice dumpling of some sort

i talk to a nice man who blows me off, then a nice lady

she tells another nice man who i am employed for

and ten minutes later im front row snapping hundreds of pics of The Sword

and they rock my face off.

if ever there was a time id like to return the favor to a city, itd be now.
