my truest and i went to the hollywood hipster breakfast staple The Griddle

on sunday

they usually have quite the wait but it was 2pm so no wait.

theyre known for their super huge pancakes and waffles. big enough for two people.

we noticed these two really pretty girls next to us who were yapping away.

then we noticed that they paid up and left.

then we noticed what they left behind (pictured) on their plates

pretty much everything.

didnt even drink their water very much.

now we know their secret to staying thin: go to the Griddle and dont eat.

people say sarah palins dumb

but sarah palins not dumb, fox is

how you gonna let this endless supply of fascinating adventures just walk around the globe without being on your channel(s)? wearing your jacket? breaking all records?

fox should look at sarah palin on the discovery channel or cbs or the wasila daily news like bp looked at that oil well when it was spewing liquid gold into the gulf. every day is a wasted one.

the woman who writes on her hands and winks at the camera was put here on earth to get the planet to tune into you, mr murdoch, why are you letting these teachable moments of mrs youbetcha getting schooled by a teacher end up on the youtubes instead of across your networks?

what exactly are you waiting for – Oprah to retire?

people who like her like you. it’s like glen beck all over again.

except she means it!

and then youve got the first dude trying to block out the guy holding up the phone cam

and then youve got one of the daughters defending the mother.

AND THEN YOU HAVE THE BOOTS

come on foxy, then you have the boots.

wanna see something cool?

wanna see something we’ve been working on for months?

wanna see something that will probably be either the #1 LA Times blog or #2 LAT blog in a few months and give the #1 LAT blog a run for its money each month?

ladies and gentlemens, children of all sizes, i present to you

FRAMEWORK, the Los Angeles Times Photo Blog

even though today is the day it launched theres lots to play around with

for example, check out the Pictures in the News

How about seeing our trippy panorama of X-Games?

what about some photo tips?

we can even do video large and in charge, including this new one with DJ Cut Chemist, or this Emmy-nominated video of the Alabama Homeboys

so play!

didnt get a new car this weekend

i keep getting wildly different numbers from people.

its actually making it easier (and cheaper) to just fix the old car, than to get something new

also the back seat of the Camaro is so small that only lil people could fit back there

so i guess there will be no new ride in my future for a lil while.

im thinking about a new ride

so i went to two dealerships yesterday

one guy wanted to charge me $20 to test drive a car

another guy wanted to charge me $100 more a month than what the car should cost.

when his boss, the closer, came out with the “what will it take to get you in this car right now” question i told him it would take him lowering my monthly payments from the super high level down to what, mathematically, it should be.

the boss said he would see if he could do it, and it would take 15 mins.

10 mins later he came back and said he couldnt do it.

but while he was “crunching the numbers” i talked to the original salesman who confided that business was bad and that very few customers were coming in and that even fewer came back after they said they were going to shop around.

so when i went home and crunched my own numbers based on a payment calculator on the chevy.com website i realized that the reason no one was coming back to that dealer was that people were able to get significant “deals” if they went Any Where Else other than that place.

strangely that dealership wasnt as cheesy and gross as the first one.

so today im going to beverly hills and see how they treat me there.

just may come home with a new hoopty. although the tales are priceless. and could be something worth writing down.

from the busblog

sept ’05

little bear walked through the muddy banks of the twisty creek oblivious to the dreck that floated on its surface

blind to the evil that awaited him around the bend

ignorant to the tragedy that lured him towards its depths.

little bear heard the song of the bluebird and turned his head to listen.

it was a song about a litte bird whod fallen from his nest one night. the night his mother had flown away to chase a hawk back to his perch while his papa was long gone hunting for food.

the little bird the bluebird sang cried as little birds do but somehow knew that it might attract the wrong attention: like from that of the wolf or the swine or the rat.

so the little bird kept his mouth shut and flapped his sticky twiggy wings to absolutely no avail and if the owl had seen it, it would have hooted

before swooping down and making a midnight snack of it.

so the little bird, the baby bird, so tiny it had yet become blue did what any little bird would, he walked into the forrest

and hid in the shadows.

until he fell asleep,

shiverring in his own sweat.

the bluebird sang this song and little bear listened and the stars listened and the breeze listened and the darkness crept a little slower so it too could hear every word.

and noone noticed but the babbling brook hushed up for once to find out what would happen to the little bird out there on its own.

even though they knew what would probably happen.

but they had hope because bluebirds dont usually sing tragedies

unless their name was tony

which this bird was called

but before he could tell his tale he was startled by the caw

of a pal telling him that trouble was on the way

so straight away he flew away

leaving little bear and the night wondering if the poor little fragile

helpless little scrawny everybodyfood

made it through the night.

and little bear saw a butterfly fluttering in the moonlight

and playfully chased it

not even noticing the squoosh beneath his paw.

caw.

nine years ago today the busblog was born

the story has been told a million times.

the results have been listed a half million times.

but basically one day i was bored and disgruntled at work, i read online about Blogger.com, i created this thing in a matter of minutes and within two months hundreds of thousands of people were here.

from that came jobs, gifts, friends, babes, vacations, books, awards, opportunity, even the car i drive.

the busblog has been a wellspring that has never stopped flowing.

true, because of this reason or that, the content has mellowed and thus the popularity has waned, but every day there’s something new here and every day people come.

the lesson of this low-fi very basic blog that’s produced over 7,250 posts is that dreams can really come true

and that your life is yours to create.

you dont have to be good lookin, you dont even have to be all that talented, all you have to do is be dedicated (or obsessive), be genuine in your intentions, and trust the universe.

i cant tell you how blessed i feel because of this adventure that we have taken together. almost everything good thats come my way since college has direct roots to this url. its an embarrassment of riches.

and i thank you from the bottom of my heart.

happy birthday busblog

something that would be nothing if not for you, the loyal readers.

im glad Arcade Fire stayed on Merge Records

and i bet theyre very happy today

not only is the best band ever outta Montreal playing a sold out show in Madison Square Garden tonight

but its being broadcast on the You Tubes tonight at 10pm ET, 7PT

and Amazon is selling their new record The Suburbs for just $4 if alls you want is the MP3 version

but if you belong to eMusic you can also get it there.

which means this record is going to be heard by lots of people in the first week

people who will probably say man theres not a lot of music like this out there

and who will probably go see the band on tour this summer fall and winter.

which is why bands sign with labels in the first place (so the word gets out).

today is the first black president’s birthday

hes 24

when i was a kid i was the only black boy in school.

when in history class we talked about slavery it was the most uncomfortable thing ever.

now in history class when people talk about barack obama’s life story i can only imagine how the one black kid in school beams with pride.

when i was a kid i didnt even imagine that such a thing would happen in my lifetime. why? well because there werent even very many blacks on tv.

there were so few that Jet magazine used to list them all on the second to last page of their tiny weekly.

sure there were blacks on tv in sports, but they werent managers or head coaches. it took a while to see them as news anchors.

but a big time politician? let alone the president of the most powerful country in the world? impossible.

the cubs had a better chance of winning it all than that.

politics aside, policies aside… when i look at pictures of barack obama, i feel differently with him than i have any other president before him

because when i see him, i see the result of millions of americans who all stopped thinking that it was impossible. i see the representative of a nation who one day said ideas and the ability to make those ideas come true is what we are about, not the color of our skin or the color we think our leaders should be.

it gives me hope that other glass ceilings can also be broken in record time.

and then we can take on some truly serious problems.

like how we get the cubs that title.
