how to blog better than anyone

step one, have two bosses who know what theyre doing and have your back.

step two, keep it real.

a year ago today on LAist i ran a story about ways that people could legally protest the war in Iraq. in the comments a gentleman snidely suggested that refrain from writing about all things political on the blog. it was a request that i had seen before on the busblog as well, and i can honestly say that it usually only comes from Republicants, alleged harbingers of freedom.

they want to tell people who they can marry, they want to tell women how to run their wombs, and they want to edit the content of any blog that dares challenge the worst president ever.

this is the exchange that went down in the comments.

Here’s an idea Tony. Why don’t you freakin’ stop droning on about politics and start talking about LA?

Unbelievable. An ad driven blog where the writers mock the readers in the comments.

…deleting from my RSS reader….

Bye Tony!

Greatest. Compliment. Ever.

thank you Mitch.

Yes, we mock the President in the post, and we mock those commentors who 1) diss the concept of citizens being civic-minded 2) fail to realize that part of being an American or an LAist is involving yourself in federal politics 3) think that it’s ok for this administration to: lie about WMDs, tap our phones, not persue those truly responsible for 9/11, play guitar while our brothers and sisters in NO drown, give tax cuts to the wealthy while our budget deficit balloons, out CIA agents… shall I go on?

You’re entitled to your opinoin Mitch but so does everyone else in this country, including the editor of this blog.

And yes, we all know you hate that.

what has happened since Mitch threatened the scariest threat ever heard on the interwebs? that he would delete our RSS signal from reaching his holy reader?

LAist has quadrupled in hits and our ad rates have gone up by six times.

stick to your guns, bloggers.
