the baseball game last night was super fun

the dodger fans that we sat near were funny, knowledgeable and for the most part well behaved.

of course they booed anyone with a cubs hat or jersey, and only one of them whipped a balled up hot dog wrapper

but at the end of the night there were fireworks and they let us out in the outfield grass to roll around and enjoy it all

it was actually pretty amazing.

of course before i left, i cursed the left field bleachers with bees, and today it all came to fruition.

if i wasnt already gainfully employed,

man would i love driving this ice cream truck

one of my favorite summers was when i was in college and i was an ice cream man guy for Bimbos Ice Cream in buffalo grove, mundelion, and the north west suburbs of chicago.

but to drive around a huge city like LA would be a piece of cake because one of the problems about ice cream mandering in IL is you have to drive through endless amounts of cornfields to get to the towns where you have a permit.

here in LA you can drive around anywhere and you just have to make sure to look out for gangmembers, petty thieves, and mudslides.

i got hit up all the time back in the day for weed and coke and even baseball cards, but i kept it simple: just ice cream and popsickles.

yes id flirt at a hot mom once in a while, but i was lucky that summer and i had a nice young college girl to think about on my long drives home.

after id get all that ice cream truck stench + sweat from the 100 degree temps washed off, id drive out to park ridge and mess around with my lovely who was getting in her last hurrahs before getting hitched.

i saw her on facebook the other day and i sighed cuz she looked pretty much exactly the way i expected her to look, 76 years later, and i saw she had the last name of her bf at the time, so it looks like sowing her wild oats didnt ruin her future.

and in a way im glad she never tracked me down, or let on that she had found me.

but if you have baby that was one of the best summers ever. mostly due to you.

happy birthday laura crane!

the one promise about life is that it ends

so the question isnt what will you say in this life
its not what will you do in this life

its what you wont say

and what you wont do.

and why you didnt play that note. and why you didnt kiss that girl. and why you didnt tell the one you love that you love her.

elvis taught me so much last night

be in a country band. be in a classical band. be in a rock band. thats what he taught me.

but most of all be not only great at one thing, like songwriting

but be great at something else too, like singing.

he taught me its not about what it looks like, its what the end result is about. for example, who says you need a drummer.

likewise: why not cover a keefe song.

why not cover a new yorker’s classic tune with your country band, even if youre a brit.

he taught me that sometimes super special shows dont happen in a sold out house.

because, again, it doesnt have to look like how you think it has to look.

however a pinks hot dog should taste a certain way, like, not cold, for starters.

after seeing elvis costello at the greek last night

my priorities have drastically changed

he taught me that theres somethign to be said about tapping into yr genius

and striving for excellence via the magic of creativity.

he turned this song inside out last night and covered Lou Reed, Hank Williams, and Elvis Presley. and then reinterpreted a few of his own songs, and beautifully went through his new record with a country band

and no drummer.

so great.

so great

so great

todays my buddy Chris’ birthday. hes 79

we met in the dorms of San Nic at UCSB way back in the day and we’ve both turned our lives over to the Lord and because of that our paths have been lined with beauty and joy.

we went to finals together last year thanks to the fact that Chris is a season ticket holder.

in fact, chris and i went to the first Laker game Ever at Staples, and we had schweet seats.

chris and jesus rob invented Thirsty Thursday back in Isla Vista and because of that we met many friends and randoms. fortunately we met young ladies as well. because when you have a keg and you brought a buck and yr own cup, how can you not make friends?

ah yes those were the days, but probably the most fun i had with Chris back then was skateboarding to class together, we are both college of creative studies grads, writing poetry all night, and then reading them the next day to the enjoyment of our class.

im sure anyone who saw us then would not think that chris would turn out to be a genius digital video forefather, whose work has been in every Tony Hawk skateboard game since the first one. and no one would ever think that id be an xbi chopper pilot.

despite his drinking, smoking, etc, my question is, how did chris get to keep his great hair?

happy birthday g
