sweaty hermit: if your ex-bestfriend f-ed your ex-husband when she was still your bestfriend but you’d moved to a different city when it happened and she was really having a hard time at the time and your ex was a super a-hole who you married under the influence (to say the least) on a trip to vegas and it’s all said and done now and you were young and your now exbestfriend wants to be friends again should you forgive and make up or should you forget her forever because the guy was a real douche and you were pretty much fully insane in self-destruct mode when you did it and how assy he was can’t be overexaggerated and that’s more the crime than the fucking your ex thing meaning it’s worse to f the ex who was evil like what the hell was she hanging out with him anyway and err um yeah, well?
ive never understood the unwritten law that states that friends cant date the exes of friends. doesnt it seem natural that if a group of friends share similar interests and find one another interesting, that once they become single that theyd naturally be attracted to each other based on a wide variety of factors ranging from shared interests, shared experiences, familiarity, proximity, etc?
not only have many of my friends dated each other but a large percentage of them married each other Despite the fact that they had omg dated some of our other friends!
life is so freakin short, people should love/date/kiss whoever they want
Butterfly Karma: If you were a recent uni graduate would you get a grown up job and buy a house or run off traveling?
whenever you can travel, you should travel. hunkering down in a grown up job in a barbie dreamhouse is only limiting yrself. be free when youre young so you can stay free when yr old.
Sarah: Why can’t some people disappear from your life when you want them to? What’s the root of all jealousy?
there was a fortune cookie that said “what you resist, persists”. so if you want something to clear out of your path you have to clear it out of your self. the root of all jealousy is the whisper from satan that what youve got isnt perfect. for the most part you can tell the difference between satans whispers and angels’ whispers because the angels dont make you sad and mad. trust yr positive emotions, think twice about the ones that make you uptight.
sass: Should I continue or stop writing Sex with Sass posts? My friends seem to be very concerned with my lack of privacy issues (for myself and my partners).
this is an excellent question because it bores down to the root of what makes a good blog and a great blog. a great blog gives the readers the impression that they are reading someones secret diary – or at least a good peek inside someones world. and what a better world than someones romantic life? however not everyone is a completely grounded, well balanced, exhibitionist who wants all their business out on someone elses blog. but ultimately, anyone who wouldnt want to get with you because you omg might write it down for a couple hundred thousand people to read probably doesnt deserve you. move to hollywood where we know everythings being documented and videotaped. blogging aint nothin compared to that.
vinny: I keep going to Vegas for vacations, should I try somewhere else and if so where?
there are so many different ways to vacation in vegas that i dont blame you for your repeat visits. holland is beautiful though. and italy doesnt suck either.
rf: Do you think Bukowski would have had a blog or twitter account if he were alive today?
even though his typewriter-produced letters and poems can be purchased on ebay for embarrassingly low prices, many people dont realize that americas finest poet was a mac user later in his life. on top of it, bro wrote and wrote and wrote. he would have been a wonderful blogger and he would definately have a twitter account because twitter fits a poet far better than a novelist.
jon: Why is ‘bra’ singular and ‘panties’ plural?
cuz peoples be crazy
Bigg Mike: What is up with Conan’s new set? Is that the Times building to his right next to city hall? If so, how is it that the Hollywood hills are behind him? Is that vantage point even possible? Oh and did you notice he stole the backdrop for his main stage from a mario bros. video game? god i need to get a life… i looove raymi!
no the building i think youre talking about is the gorgeous wilshire bullocks (which is now a law schol). this blog did an amazing job writing about it. but no, that backdrop isnt possible in any way. bullocks wilshire is in koreatown, which is west of downtown, yet on conan’s backdrop its to the east. conan!
the big deal is the best value meal jack in the box offers. a chicken sandwich or cheeseburger, two tacos, and a drink for $2.99. pretty sweet considering that those tacos are pretty damn great. even dudes in vans who think bobbleheads are alive like em. unfortunately it only takes place during limited times.
harris: 1. Do you feel like a fully legit staff member/journalist at the LAT, or is it still a waking dream? 1a. Will the LAT blogs eventually be the tail that wags the dead-tree dog? 2. Who is the hottest (looking/writing or otherwise) new chick blogger? 3. California: broke, or brokest? 4. Do you really still believe in the old man in the clouds white man God?
1. i didnt feel like i could call myself a Californian even after living here for 10 years. but having several of my emails leaked, being accused of being “old media”, and being constantly asked at panels “what are you going to do when newspapers die?” made me realize that others look at me as a legit staff member, so i probably should too. but its still a dream come true and i still take pictures around the building like a tourist/fanboy. 1a. the LAT blogs are simply an extension of our print product, so its all dog – no tail. if our blogs were wildly different than what we do in print then thatd be a different story. so when people are all shocked and amazed when they see the gigantic increases in pageviews online, they should just realize that it comes from the fact that the Times has always delivered great content, people are just reading it on a different platform here in 2009. 2. sass, duh. 3. when i stop seeing a bentley every day i’ll start believing all that stuff. 4. ive never believed that the old man in the clouds was white since he was born in the middle east and lived in africa for a while.
katie: if you had 24 hours to live, what would you do?
id eat till i puked. then id get in a plane and join the mile high club, then id parachute into wrigley field and throw out the first pitch and get drunk in the bleachers. till i puked.
Andrea: What was the biggest transition when you went from the Midwest to the West Coast? And not linked.
not really knowing what month it was. and being able to sleep with the window open almost year round. youre now #107!
one of the first really great bloggers, anti has influenced all of the great influential bloggers whether they’ll admit it or not.
his humor, his recklessness, his openness is still something many bloggers resist.
his foray into videos precluded youtube. his blogspot artistry knew no peers.
one day people will look back at southbay bloggers and probably (rightfully) raise xTx to the very top but she wouldnt be there without a good deal of trailblazing by todays birthday boy
happy birthday john wayne, one of the few men i know who could make an elvis/vegas wedding and pull it from the probable jaws of cheese and turn it into one of the coolest things ever.
needless to say the busblog would be a shell of itself without the influence of anti and his now defunct blog. but his legend lives on in the pages of buzznet.
it was probably exactly what all that means, plus even a little more.
the above video is from last years party there. smart and interesting people talking intelligently about a controversial topic at a controversial home with free food and open bars.
this year they had the state senator from frisco who’s trying to legalize it in Cali. they had the waterboy’s girlfriend faruza balik. and i even think i saw the hedgehog ron jeremy but at that point i had been drinking a little.
last year perry farrell dj’ed. this year the dandy warhols played and KG opened.
it was very sexy but cool. the vibe was probably exactly right. and according to those who went in the grotto, the water was quite warm.
there were people doing tricks with flaming whips, there were naked people in the grotto, there was hef and his twin girlfriends checking out some new calanders.
there were playmates giving tours of the grounds.
it was miles davis smooth and different.
karisa said it reminded her of disneyland.
seeing jay z and eminem at the beginning of the week and ending it up with being at this party at the end of the week is a great way to kick off the summer.
ok now i have to write about it for the pop n hiss blog. kbye.
its tremendous what happens with the right tools are put in the right hands.
the lovely ali miller was nice enough to show me what i was missing at the E3 deal that im sure youre sick of by now. and one of the things she told me was that besides Final Fantasy 23847 the best thing to get excited about was the new batman game. so when i saw that one of our guys, Jason Neubert had busted with the badass panorama i wondered if i could put it on here.
so if you can see it up there, be thrilled and amazed.
meanwhile tell me that Daisy Fuentes wasnt flirting with me in this video interview
for quite a while it was my belief that the name of the game was to figure out who you are and then stay true to that ideal while being as successful as possible while wearing the clothes that youd normally wear.
i did pretty well by not having to wear ties or fancy shoes for most of my life.
and for a little while there i was in pajamas for the better part of a year and a half.
but jay-z sported an offensive tshirt at his job the other day and i was all wow, now yr talking.
as they say, thats some second level ish.
today im considering fancy shoes but i might just wear regular shoes.
yesterday my buddy called me bummed out that he couldnt get into the edison right by the times building because he had sneakers on and they dont allow that.
“do you know how much these ‘sneakers’ cost?” he complained.
and i thought, you think they wouldnt let jay-z in the edison if he had sneakers on?
or oprah
i said i dont love the edison very much because they also like to kick you out of your table if you didnt reserve it for the entire night.
theres some pretty interesting rules for the dinner jacket event tonight. rule number one was dress to impress, so im stapling my eighth grade report card to my top hat.
in fact this morning i had to go to my favorite camera store and i saw the saddest thing
this camera store is called Samys and it can get pretty crowded in their parking lot, which is 100% valet (if you need it) and its free.
the rules are pretty simple, if you park behind someone toss your key to one of the valet guys.
someone had parked about a carlength behind the car in front of it and didnt leave their keys with the valet. and of course that earlier car got a little trapped, but because she was the typical LA/Beverly Hills omg-i-MUST-leave-this-second she tried to back up and manuever but of course dented the bumper of the car behind her.
that made her panic more and as i was arriving i heard her on the phone as she inspected the damage she had caused. the whole time she was blaming the other guy for parking and not leaving the keys. and in a way she had a point, but even though this camera store is 3 stories tall, its not 3000 stories tall, all that needed to happen was a page around intercom of the store, a tad of patience, and maybe a little verbal abuse when the dude arrived to move his car.
instead two really nice cars had damage and peoples mornings were ruined.
then i drove to E3 for my second day there. i was greeted by alleged Christians who were protesting the event by informing us all that we were going to go to Hell because we enjoy video games.
i wanted to ask them which part of their bible said “forget all that judge not lest ye be judged” that the good book is practically oozing with, but ive noticed that most bible beating protestors outside metal shows and carnivals have absolutely no interest in biblical discourse. for the most part they are just there to yell and get yelled at.
not my scene. which is funny because i was headed to a convention of “games” where you basically walk around in fantastical worlds to beat the living crap out of total strangers in vibrant detail. the best i saw in this genre was the upcoming batman game that cost tons to make but will reap millions and millions and millions.
nowhere in sight was Balance The Budget ’10 or Super Doctor III.
or games that taught you how to kiss better
or accessories that helped you write better.
but somehow i still had fun.
dan neil who i never really read much before i started working here, and who cuts some funny videos every now did one this week about E3 and he plays around with some of these concepts
and even though i experienced a good deal of very enjoyable sensory overload, i sorta wish religious protesters would cross my path more often
because inevitably they are always at the places where i have the most fun.
interesting reminders that a good time awaits just inside the doors.
