sometimes i think the terrorists have won

sometimes i think about osama bin laden and i think if he was alive he’d be saying ha ha america via his audio tape or video tape. but then i think pretending hes dead is just naive. like elivs hes alive. if not in body, definitely in spirit.

there are ugly holes where glory once stood. there are literal scars in our largest city. seven years later we have lost more than buildings and a few thousand innocent americans. we’ve lost more than i have ever experienced during my lifetime.

and by we, i mean pretty much the whole globe. if new york city and the pentagon arent safe, in broad daylight, then who or what is safe?

osama, if hes alive, appears safe. we wont even go into pakistan to “hunt him down”. we blew up mosques in iraq, whats so holy about pakistan?

every year i obsess over this day and all that comes up are more questions. and really, what answers have come about since 9/11/07? have we learned nothing new? have our tax dollars really gone for nothing in a year, in two years, in three? what has the torture, the extradition, the waterboarding, the domestic spying, the international spying, the wars, the money, the “intelligence” gotten us in the last few years? every 9/11 they should tell us.

in life, at work, at play, on tv, every now and then you might say “you know what, something sure seems fishy here. someone really isnt telling me something.” after 7 years they should start telling us stuff.

and im a peaceful man, but if dude is really in pakistan, and if we know it, and if pakistan wont let us in, if indeed they are protecting and harboring the alleged mastermind behind all of what we think of when we think of this infamous date, then i say they open up the draft.

a temporary draft.

one where you can sign up for however long as you want to be over there. sorta like how radiohead charged whatever you wanted to pay for their new record. draft for as long as you can take it.

and you go to boot camp, you learn all the things you have to learn, you get in shape, and you get flown over to the border of pakistan. you and the probably 5 million other yous that want to find this guy and like you were willing to join the temporary draft.

and then on that certain date, everyone bum rushes pakistan and all 5 million start doing their thing. and i bet you one of two things happen. someone either turns him over or we find him in no time because if i go to hunt bin laden during a war, im warring. im pissed im not in LA, im pissed its been more than 7 years. im pissed but im focused. and ive come screaming for vengeance.

and i bet there are fellow likeminded folk like me.

but for some reason it seems like the decision makers of this country are perfectly content not to go where the real evil is. and that confuses me and makes me distrust. and when you distrust your own, then maybe evil has prevailed.

for now.

and that doesnt feel so great either.

Goats in downtown LA! Angels Flight, 4th street and Broadway Hill

from the Times:

Leaders of the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency hired 100 goats to nibble away thick weeds on a steep slope at the corner of 4th and Hill streets, next to the Angels Flight funicular.

Agency officials said the goats were cheaper and more environmentally friendly than two-legged brush-clearers armed with gasoline-powered weed-whackers.

And they are much more fun to watch, downtown office workers and other passersby quickly decided, as the animals fanned out over the 45-degree slope and chowed down.

They ruled and everyone had smiles everyone. They seemed to love eating the trees the most.

I love Quiet Company for several reasons. The main reasons being that my husband is the heart behind the band and that most of the songs are sweet words towards me. But even if Quiet Company were a stranger- I’d still stick behind them because they are good. And to put icing on their rock cake- they are also humble, sincere, friendly, and hard working. That’s my main sales pitch: Quiet Company IS JUST GOOD.

With that being said, they’re in a contest to play Austin City Limits. ACL is a three day festival where important people play and thousands of people hear. Foo Fighters, Beck, Tom Petty, you name them- they have probably played the festival. Quiet Company is in the 4th round (out of 5) to be able to play the festival. If they win? A ton of exposure. A ton of, in my opinion, well-earned exposure. This band has been working it’s collective rear off for the past 2 years with extensive touring and living music. All you have to do is vote for the next 2 days from every e.mail address you have. And I promise you this, it literally takes less than one minute. To help a band. That you might even sincerely like.

Or at least, do it for the internet and Tony Pierce. Amen.

hey today is do something good for the animals day

especially if youre canadian, eh.

keira-anne has the details:

SPCA walk to raise funds for the BC-SPCA on Sunday, September 14. I’ll leave it up to you to think of a creative and saucy reason for which people should sponsor me (and Matt too I guess). Everyone that donates $20 or more gets thrown into a raffle draw for a $50 MyVisa gift card and a frameable 8×10 photo of one of Duane’s HDR portraits (like this one). Tell them to help me blow this popsicle stand away and be BC’s top fundraiser.

keira-anne and matt have posted about this recently and because secretly you all love bc and dogs and cats, you should help our four legged friends, dontcha think?

because the Lord loves us

but me specifically

he made me want to drink apple juice this morning. a beverage i love every morning.

in fact one reason that i am rarely sick is due, i believe, to positive thinking, and a constant intake of 100% apple juice every day.

as i was waiting for the elevator, i noticed it was taking a long time to arrive on my floor. i also noticed that the other elevator was being held on the 6th floor for a very long time.

the 6th floor at the LA Times is a really cool level where they routinely lease out for movies, commercials, and music videos cuz its super beautiful up there and no one works there any more, and you can do a lot of things with it.

you can also rent it out for big bucks if you’re trying to be creative with how to make income.

i got in the elevator and saw a sign that said “Bone Deep, 6th Floor” and i chuckled because i finally understood the joke my coworker had made when he said they were filming a porn upstairs. i was bummed that i hadnt brought my iPhone so i could take a picture for the busblog.

got off on the first floor and who looked right at me with her soft brown eyes?

none other than my girlfriend Rihanna. looking amazing.

anyone who knows me knows im rarely speechless, let alone starstruck, but there she was, looking hotter than anyone ive ever met or seen in any elevator ever. even megan fox who i rode with in the palms a year ago last week in vegas at the vmas with karisa.

“we’re getting on the elevator” her handler said into a headset. i slipped out, her 400lb security guard kept the door open, rihanna returned to her Sidekick, she smiled, fainted a little in my heart.

and the rest of the day has been a little dream knowing that one floor above me is my Jamaican princess. yes, with her bf chris brown, but we will forget that detail.

and yes my apple juice was delish.

thelonius monster “sammy hagar weekend”

im a little depressed tonight. nothing serious. nothing to comment on. just the true love. she told me that she was not only moving to my most hated city on the planet, but that she had found another. hasnt been back in america for more than a few months, and spent most of that time in oregon, yet has found another to love. annoying. some say im to blame. some say i pushed her away by being honest with her and pledging my allegiance and by stating the obvious which is sure time has passed but we still have something special, something rarer than rare. something that defies all space and time.

her beautiful blue eyes said yes but her mouth said no. and it smiled when it said no. indeed it laughed because thats what happens when you lie thru yr teeth.

run to san dieger beautiful angel. fly away to the arms of america. cant run forever. and you know noone has what ive got. one day we will be in walkers but because im black i will have a step on her and i will push her walker over and make love to her right there in the rec room at the old folks home in front of everyone. no little blue pills needed. some might be ingested, of course, cuz if youre gonna put on a show make it a good one, but none will be needed.

back in olden times when mtv played videos that helped you learn about new music, theyd have these Weekends. like occasionally itd be a Michael Jackson Weekend and all theyd do is play all these vids from the kingofpop, sometimes itd be a Madonna Weekend, and you’d get to see everything she had come out with. i dont know if they ever really had a sammy hagar weekend because other than 1-2-3 lock box and i cant drive 55 i dont know if they coulda had even a sammy hagar hour unless they counted all that crap that pretended to be van halen.

which is why i love thelonius monster for this song. which captures a beautiful slice of a beautiful time in southern california and maybe the world. a time when boys had “little tiny baby moustache”s and smoked pot and drank beer and sat in the parking lot of anaheim stadium. a time when football arenas werent renamed to be ads for crap. a time when true loves didnt move to the 619 without really giving the ones who they really loved a chance first.

i know ive had lots of chances. more than i deserve. but on any given sunday even a blogger can do the right thing. even a washed up one. even me.

to cheer up i ate sushi with two lovely ladies and then got wasted at this pool party at the custom hotel. sorta worked. but tonight it stopped working when there was a moment of silence in this empty house and i realized that someones spooning her in the darkness and whispering dirty jokes tonight and making her laugh.

and that person doesnt have a blog.

Well It’s a sammy hagar weekend
it’s a sammy hagar state of mind
it’s a sammy hagar weekend
it’s a sammy hagar way of life

johnny mathis singing the national anthem

before yesterdays bears victory

i love it when people sing the national anthem.
i love ginormous american flags
i love really crappy amateur camerawork
i love that peyton manning thought he didnt need to play any pre-season games
i love when people in the worst seats in the stadium shoot video
i love indoor fireworks

but most of all i love that da bears are 1-0 thanks in part to great defense.

also, i didnt think that johnny mathis was still alive. is that wrong?

lil brotha

yesterday was a big tv day. lots of football. lots of morning political talk shows.

but then there was also the VMAs!

i thought kanye was aaaah-ite. but lil wayne kicked buttocks.

swore. threw down. held his junk. brought up how janet lost her top at the superbowl (an mtv production), and somehow scampered about with his lil ass sticking out of his pants, but never had his pants actually fall off. tough trick, lemme tell you.

i also thought the host was funny. whatever his name is.

but back to the lil wayne bit above, at the end did he say, “shout out to matt damon”?

is jimmy kimmel everywhere?
