hey you two girls lets have a fashion show contest and theyd be all whoo hooo.
id write letters to famous companies and theyd say omg tony pierce wants to work for us? roll out the red carpets.
but life changes. mojo gets stolen. hair disappears. bellies inflate. etc etc etc. and people get used to saying no to me.
not sure i understand it. other than this is the part of life that separates the man from the boy. not sure i like it. but will have to maintain decorum. and drink more of course.
and read more books because clearly im not the only soul who has found himself living a life he was never prepared to live.
people say oh but its just Roger Waters, it isnt most of Pink Floyd
and id argue that hes the most important part
he wrote most of it, sang most of it, Is it.
the Radio K.A.O.S. tour in like ’86 was one of the greatest shows ive ever seen, still. and that was Rogers minus all of Floyd and it was tremendous.
meanwhile what has Floyd done without Waters? anything interesting? nothing in the slightest. theyve lost their voice and direction.
sure this tour is a cash cow money grab where the cheapest tickets are over $125 in these cavernous arenas.
but in these days where everyone is doing concerts of their best albums in their entirety (pixies, devo, public enemy, weezer, van morrison… even steely dan) whats so wrong with a guy doing a monster album all the way through, especially since when the record came out there wasnt much of a tour because of the ginormousness of the production.
even though i was extremely aware of the material before i made it to college, it was there, particularily with rob and chris that i became re-immersed with it due to the steady diet of all things floyd zep and dead coming from their hippie commune.
add karisa into the mix who also counts the wall as one of her all time faves then we have an educated and motivated group to a) preparty correctly b) use public transpo to the event and c) experience the magic with fond memories attached to each measure
there was a time when i thought of the wall as simply a depressing album about war and loss. but now it seems deeper than that – a grand and wild whole made up of individually crafted parts of perfection.
its also something we havent heard before or, sadly, since.
i have an admission to make. i doubt it will turn off any of you, but if this was Chicago i might be run out of town.
i was never in love with Ron Santo until he had his second leg cut off.
i grew up at a time when there were very few black people on tv. and as the only black boy in school i would get very happy when id see a black dude in a place of prominence. and for me growing up in the burbs of illinois there was no more prominent place than on WGN in a Cub uniform.
therefore of all the Cubbie heroes of the 70s there were only three who mattered to me, the black ones: Ernie Banks, Billie Williams, and Fergie Jenkins.
because im slow, for the longest time i thought Jose Cardenal was black because of his immensely impressive afro, but once someone put a mic in front of him it because painfully obvious that he was of hispanic descent.
ron santo was a really great cub player. but he was almost invisible to me and by that i mean he wasnt as suave as williams, wasnt Mr Cub like banks, wasnt the ace like fergie, and didnt have a fro to aspire to rock like cardenal. so even though he batted cleanup i barely noticed him unless it was the All Star Game.
younger cub fans discovered santo through his radio broadcasts but because i was older, there were only two cub announcers that i paid any attention to: jack brickhouse and harry caray. and once youve embraced harry it was like staring into the sun: no one else mattered.
to this day i have not one but two pictures of harry on my desk at work.
fortunately for those cub fans who actually stayed in chicagoland there was a resurgence in Santo awareness when it became obvious that he was really suffering from the effects of diabetes.
sure he was a good radio guy, but the real story was he was a Cub who was almost good enough to be a Hall of Famer; but because he had gone through heart attacks, bladder surgery, heart surgery, one leg amputated in 2001 and another leg amputated in 2002 he became a more lovable character who was easy to root for as the evil Hall of Fame committee continued to deny him access to the highest glory in baseball.
last night at 70 years old, Santo ascended to somewhere better than the hall of fame
an even friendlier confine
and i hope that when Ron Santo made it to the pearly gates, St. Peter made him sweat it out for a second or two pretending he didn’t see him on the list, and then said, oh wait whats this, and lifted his sleeve to reveal his only tattoo
omg keira anne and i go way back. we first met in the xbi when she was trying to poison me with some truth serum
and i played along for a while
and then turned the tables.
now neither of us are at the agency so we can talk more openly and honestly together.
turned out the xbi prevented her from dating for as long as she was working there. something id never heard of before, but it makes sense.
never know when youre going to be kidnapped or killed.
the last thing theyd want is for you to blink if the bad guys flashed a picture of someone you loved on the screen.
but now that she has a regular job she has a bf. who she seems pretty into, so of course i am very happy for her.
and hes a lucky dude because i can only imagine all that pent up lovin thats inside our sweet girl from BC.
sadly you wont be reading any of those personal details in her blog, but you will learn alot about vancouver and british columbia. so make sure to go to keira-anne.com
and if you wanna revisit the past check out our oldinterviews.
